Written by Matt
Tuesday, 14 June 2005

Nick Mason undertook a couple of interviews yesterday for the British media, concerning the reunion of Pink Floyd and Roger Waters at the London Live 8 concert, being held on July 2nd.

The first was in the BBC Radio 4 morning show, The Today Programme, where they took a look at how and why bands get back together. In the interview, which can be heard through this link, Nick talks of the background to the split: "The only real issue was whether we should've - and this is from Roger's point of view - should've carried on without him, or the band cease to exist when he left. And that really is what the issue was about."

We have an interesting update for you on Nick Mason's excellent book, "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd". We brought you news of an audiobook on March 8th, and a week later, news of a re-designed paperback edition for the European market, on March 14th.

We heard late this afternoon from the publishers that Nick will be writing a new section covering the forthcoming Live 8 concert in London for inclusion in the paperback edition, which will also include pictures from the concert.

The audiobook will contain a bonus track, with Nick talking about the concert, and how the reunion happened.

Further to the momentous news yesterday (June 12th) that Pink Floyd were reuniting with Roger Waters, to play their first concert together for 24 years as part of the Live 8 London show, we have a couple of updates for you here.

Firstly, Roger Waters has given his comments about the reunion:

"It's great to be asked to help Bob raise public awareness on the issues of third world debt and poverty. The cynics will scoff, screw 'em!

"Also, to be given the opportunity to put the band back together, even if it's only for a few numbers, is a big bonus."

Since the Live 8 concert was announced at the end of May, the rumour mill has gone mad with claims that Pink Floyd were playing at the show. Brain Damage were called this morning by Pink Floyd's manager with the fantastic news that the band ARE INDEED reuniting with Roger Waters to play the Hyde Park, London Live 8 show, on July 2nd!

I was told that David Gilmour only made the decision on Friday night, which no doubt prompted a hectic day yesterday, getting the others - Nick Mason, Richard Wright, and old bandmate Roger Waters - committed to the show. David was keen for us to share this with you; they did not decide to participate weeks ago, and have just left it until now to maximize publicity...

Thursday, 09 June 2005

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour joins artists such as U2, Sting, Elton John and Van Morrison, all of whom are collaborating with B.B. King for the blues legend's "Duets" album to be released later this year.

The record is just one of several celebrations surrounding King's 80th birthday (September 16th) this year. In June, ground breaking on the long-planned B.B. King Museum in his home town of Indianola, Mississippi, will take place, with benefit concerts to raise funds to take place this summer.

B. B. King started recording the album in March, and as yet, David's contribution to the album is not clear. As and when we get further information, we will of course let you know.
