Rare Pink Floyd items auctioned this evening Print E-mail

Our friends over at top London auction house Cooper Owen are running a Music Legends auction this evening (July 28th) which starts at 19:30hrs. The auction focuses on items from musicians such as John Lennon (with his yellow-tinted glasses being one of the headlining items), and Jimi Hendrix.

Amongst the Hendrix items are three items from his 1967 Winter Tour, all of which with a major Pink Floyd element to them. Many of you will be aware that Jimi's tour was a package bill, with Syd Barrett's Floyd given around 20 minutes to show what they were made of, in provincial theatres across Britain (and many places even had an early matinée show, too).

David Gilmour amongst legends on "Tribute To The King" DVD Print E-mail

Those of you with good memories will recall a couple of news stories at the tale end of last year (most recently, on December 14th), concerning David Gilmour taking part in a special concert held at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios, to record a a celebration of 50 years of rock'n'roll.

David's part of the show on December 3rd was a performance of "Don't" accompanied by Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. The concert, helmed by Scotty Moore, guitarist for Elvis Presley for the recording of That's Alright, Mama, which has been taken as the official starting point of rock'n'roll in 1954, included Ringo Starr (The Beatles), Keith Richards, Ron Wood and Bill Wyman (the Rolling Stones), Mark Knopfler, and the aforementioned Mr Gilmour. The show was recorded in high definition for release on DVD this year, and we have just received full details of this!

Floyd Live 8 reunion story in Classic Rock magazine Print E-mail

The new issue of the UK's Classic Rock magazine (due to hit newsagents today) includes a feature on the Live 8 reunion between Roger Waters, and Pink Floyd. In their promotional material for the new issue, they note that they have "the exclusive inside story" on the band getting back together. We've not seen the magazine yet, so cannot vouch for the extent of the article - but will update this story once we know.

Pink Floyd 1966-67 DVD release announced Print E-mail

Hot on the heels of the recent CD release, news has arrived at Brain Damage today that the long-awaited DVD of "Pink Floyd - London 1966-67" is finally getting a release.

It is a fascinating look at the early days of the band, featuring the classic line-up of Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Rick Wright.

Nick Mason "Inside Out" - German language version announced Print E-mail

Further to our previous news stories concerning Nick Mason's book "Inside Out - A Personal History Of Pink Floyd", we have some great news for our German visitors.

"Inside Out: Pink Floyd. Eine persönliche Geschichte von Nick Mason" is being released in September by Rockbuch Verlag, and provides a full translation of the book into the language. All pictures and layout are as other editions.
