Saturday, 05 February 2005

Monday January 31st saw the 2005 Total Production International awards, at the Novotel London West hotel in London, which featured a number of past and present Pink Floyd employees and facilities getting recognition and thanks.

Of prime interest was the award made to Phil Taylor by David Gilmour himself, pictured here exclusively, alongside Mark Cunningham, Editor of TPI. The appearance of David was kept extremely quiet before the event, so that the surprise for Phil was not spoilt.

Pink Floyd's The Wall - BBC Radio 2 programme postponed again Print E-mail

Saturday, 29 January 2005

Further to our recent news items, reporting that Pink Floyd's legendary 1979 album, The Wall, is the focus of Stuart Maconie's BBC Radio 2 programme "Critical List", originally due to air on January 22nd, then January 29th, we bring you news that the show has been further delayed.

The show was initially postponed due to the BBC's coverage of the Tsunami Benefit Concert being held in Cardiff. Stuart himself told us (prior to the 22nd) that the show had been shunted back to the 29th, but as anyone who tuned in last night found out, the show was replaced with another. We now understand that it will be aired on February 12th, and are seeking assurances from the BBC that this will be the final change to this programme's position on the schedules.

Back in May 2004, we brought you the news that Brain Damage had been contacted by Mark Sturdy over at top UK music magazine Mojo, after help from us and all of you!

He has been commissioned by the magazine to write a piece on former Pink Floyd frontman Syd Barrett's career around 1971-1973 - in other words, his last couple of years in music. We've just had an update from Mark:

Rick Wright donates platinum Wall award for Tsunami appeal Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Monday, 24 January 2005

In a special auction held last night, a platinum award for Pink Floyd's The Wall album was sold for €31,500 (approximately US$41,150) in aid of the Tsunami appeal.

The auction was organised by Greek National TV (ERT) and the platinum disc was a gift from Franka Wright, the Greek fashion designer who married Richard Wright in 1984. She stated that Richard loves Greece so much that he was very happy to do it. Franka presented the award herself to the eventual winner of the auction - a Greek man from Filothei, Athens. The award was one of many special items donated to the auction, which was set to raise a lot of money for the appeal.

Our thanks to George over at the Greek PF Fan Club for this news.
