Rare Pink Floyd items appear from time to time at the various sales held at the big auction houses. However, a sale (Rock & Film Memorabilia) on April 27th at Bonhams of Knightsbridge, one of the largest auction houses in the UK, included a very rare item indeed...
The single-sided Joker's Wild EP, featuring a youthful David Gilmour, was a private pressing of 50 copies. Recorded in 1966 at the Regent Sound Studios in London, all the copies of the five track record were given to family, friends and supporters of the band. The one that was being auctioned was given to a school friend of Gilmour's.
Consequently, it is extremely unusual to ever see a copy being offered. Indeed, Bonhams and Record Collector magazine have placed the Jokers Wild record at joint 53rd in their One Hundred Rarest Records survey. The estimate for the record, lot 358, was £800-1000, but in the end sold for £420 plus buyers premium and tax (a total of £504) which secured the record and a copy on CD.

As a very special surprise, and amidst great secrecy beforehand, the award was given to him by David Gilmour, no doubt taking a break from preparations for the Live 8 concert next month.
