privateer covertim renwick We told you recently about Tim Renwick, an old friend of David Gilmour, and a key part of Pink Floyd's touring band from 1987 onwards, who has a new album out. Privateer is a guitar-based instrumental album, showcasing his fluid, evocative style in a range of different tracks, some of which betraying the influence Pink Floyd have had on him!

The album can only be bought from his website - www.TimRenwick.com - where you can hear clips from some of the songs. He kindly gave us a copy of the album to give away in our latest Brain Damage competition; all the correct entries have been gone through, and the lucky winner is M. Turpin from the UK. Well done to you, and better luck next time to those who weren't drawn out the BD hat!

As you know, there are three special performances of Ça Ira, Roger Waters' opera, taking place in Manaus, Brazil, next month. The spectacular Teatro Amazonas in Manaus is host to the show on the 15th, 22nd and 24th April, and Roger has been keenly involved in preparations.

Lika Geribello, the executive producer of the event, who recently gave us some insight into the event, has kindly sent us over more exclusive photos from the preparations.

Roger spent three days in Manaus to see the rehearsals of Ça Ira. He sang with the singers, exchanged ideas with the stage director and visited the Production Technical Centre where the scenery and costumes are made. The pictures here (click the thumbnails) are from the rehearsals and from the lunch with the Brazilian team...

roger waters gustavo cerati pedro aznar As a follow up to our story last Sunday about Gustavo Cerati recording a new track with Roger Waters in New York City, we have a picture and more information of their meeting, thanks to Eduardo Balerdi and Pedro Cabrera.

The song was recorded for the Fundación Alas (a foundation to help improve health and education for children in Latin America). According to Ruth Infarinato (Alas Public Relations Director), Cerati was in New York from March 8th until March 14th, he then went back to Argentina to work on a demo that Roger Waters gave to him. In this session one of the best Argentinian musicians, Pedro Aznar, worked together with Cerati and Waters.

For this new song Cerati wrote the lyrics, played the lead guitar, and sang. By the end of April Waters and Cerati will get together to finish the new track. The picture [click thumbnail] shows, from left to right: Roger, Gustavo Cerati, Pedro Aznar.

jon carinFancy seeing Roger Waters and his band perform in Denver this year? And, how about getting backstage passes with your tickets?

This is the opportunity awaiting two lucky people, thanks to Jon Carin. He is auctioning off a pair of tickets and backstage passes to the Denver show to raise money for his daughter's school in New York, to try to compensate for budget cuts from the city of New York this year.

If you fancy helping Jon out in his fundraising attempt, seeing Roger live in Denver, AND meeting Jon backstage, then check out this auction on eBay.com.

UPDATE: the auction finished with the winner paying $1700 for the tickets and passes, raising a tidy sum for Jon's daughter's school.

gustavo cerati Last Saturday (March 8th) saw Gustavo Cerati [left], leader of Soda Stereo, the biggest band in Latin America, record a new track with Roger Waters in New York City.

The song - recorded in Phillip Glass's Looking Glass studio - was recorded for the Fundación Alas (a foundation to help improve health and education for children in Latin America), and the collaboration was engineered by Colombian singer Shakira. As yet nothing has been announced as to how the track will be used but of course, once we know this, we will let you know. UPDATE: despite earlier reports, the song title hasn't been confirmed yet.

Our thanks to Juan Cricco and Guillermo Porras for the info.
