Last night, the Brixton Ritzy in south London was the setting for the North American cinematic HD
premiere of David Gilmour's forthcoming 2DVD set, "Remember That Night - Live At The Royal Albert Hall", which is released in the US on Tuesday (September 18th).
In a much more intimate setting than the European event some nine days prior, the event was broadcast live via satellite to around 162 cinemas across the US and Canada. As with the European screening, it was a stunning reminder of David's tour last year, and had its own share of great moments...

On Thursday, Nick Mason paid a very entertaining and amusing visit to his old friend Nicky Horne, as guest on Nicky's Planet Rock radio show. Mason is in mainly to chat about Piper and the original 1967 studio sessions but over the 50 odd minutes conversation moves onto the Syd Tribute show in May and why Roger didn't play with PF; Live8; future plans; Nick's fave PF track (a surprise) and the bizarre possibility of Roger joining Deep Purple on loan in a kind of inter-band transfer market. Typical Mason humour.
It's available to stream for 7 days after broadcast. Either click here for the stream, or go to PlanetRock.com, select 'Listen Live', then 'Listen Again', then 'Last 7 Days: Nicky Horne' - Mason is currently the first item.

Today's edition of the UK's The Sun newspaper has a fascinating two-page interview with Nick Mason, focusing on 1967, the recording and release of Piper At The Gates of Dawn, and the immeasurable contribution that Syd Barrett made to the band.
In the interview, Nick says: "I know it was only the first album of a band that has staggered on for 40 odd years but if it hadn’t been for Syd, we wouldn’t exist in the form we do or probably any form. I think it is nice to credit him with that."

Legendary filmmaker Peter Whitehead was at the heart of Swinging London, chronicling the youth explosion, the burgeoning popular music scene and the counterculture of the 1960s. On October 29th, the BFI releases a DVD featuring two of his films for the first time; Wholly Communion (1965) and Benefit of the Doubt (1967), coupled with a new interview with Peter. "Peter Whitehead and the Sixties" also contains a series of extra items, including his experimental short 'Jeanetta Cochrane' (1967), shot while he was at the Slade School of Art.
This rarely seen, 6-minute film includes music from Pink Floyd - Syd Barrett was a friend of Whitehead's from Cambridge. The track is a version of Insterstellar Overdrive recorded before the band signed to EMI; we suspect it is the same recording as on "London 66-67" but haven't got confirmation of this yet.
It can be ordered from Amazon UK and Amazon Germany.
