Back on November 19th, 2005, we told you about a (then) recently unearthed recording of a concert that Syd Barrett participated in back on January 27th, 1972.
The band - The Last-Minute Put-Together Boogie Band - included Jack Monck on bass, Twink on drums, and Fred Frith on guitar. Their set that night consisted of 5 blues songs before Syd comes on stage for a long jam ("Number Nine") followed by 3 blues songs/improvs ("Gotta Be A Reason", "Let's Roll" and "Sweet Little Angel").
Up for auction on eBay currently is the incredibly rare poster for the event (see right; click thumbnail to enlarge). To our knowledge, the poster has not been seen in public since it was on display in Cambridge in early 1972, and is bound to be of interest to serious Barrett collectors, as well as fans of the headliners Pink Fairies and Hawkwind. (Thanks to Clayton Everett for the info)

One of our favourite radio stations is the award winning UK-based digital radio station, Planet Rock. A very Pink Floyd-friendly station, they've broadcast some unmissable Floyd-related programmes over the last few years, most recently Guy Pratt's in-depth interview of Richard Wright on the 40th anniversary of Piper At The Gates of Dawn. Also, Guy himself has recently got an 11pm-1am show on Friday nights (see the "listen again" link to the right of this story) - a great way to end the week.
However, the station's owners are making some financial cutbacks across the range of interests they have, and if they are not able to secure a buyer, it has been agreed that Planet Rock will close on March 28th. This would be terrible news, and already, many fans of the station (including musicians such as Fish, Rick Wakeman, and Brian May - who has even asked if he can buy it!) have come out in support in the form of feedback, and online petitions, to hopefully save it from closure.
Please visit www.SavePlanetRock.co.uk for more details and to make your voice heard.
UPDATE, March 27th: There is some definite interest in the station being taken over, and while this is investigated, Planet Rock has been given an additional month on air. It will definitely be broadcasting until the end of April now. Let's hope that the station is bought and is kept on air...

Last Friday (February 8th) saw Nick Mason jamming with budding stars at a disabled children's special school in London, today's Islington Gazette reports.
The wildly enthusiastic crowd were celebrating not only the appearance of Pink Floyd's drummer, but a £20,000 donation from a local law firm, which paid for a drumming teacher and equipment for
music rooms at The Bridge School, which caters for youngsters with severe learning difficulties and autism.
Nick was asked to come along by a friend with a child at the school, and talked to the Islington Gazette about the event.

Born and raised in Cambridge, Tim Renwick is a name familiar to most of you. He is an old friend of David Gilmour, and he was a key part of Pink Floyd's touring band from 1987 onwards. He played with the band at the Live8 concert in Hyde Park in 2005. He also played with Roger Waters on his Pros and Cons tour of 1984.
Sadly, he has just been in contact with the Sound On Sound music recording magazine's website to report the theft of his own guitars from his studio, and in case any Brain Damage visitors can help, we've included the information here about what has gone missing...

Apologies to all of you who tried to visit Brain Damage yesterday (particularly in the afternoon/evening). As you would have seen, the site was down. This was due to someone doing something they shouldn't on our hosts servers! All should be back to normal now, and hopefully this situation won't happen again...
