"The Triumph of Love" for which David Gilmour did the guitar solos on the soundtrack, is to be released by Paramount Home Video on Region 1 DVD in the USA on October 29th, 2002. Our thanks to Kees Nijpels for yet more DVD news!

Nick Mason appeared at the (sometimes damp) Goodwood Revival Festival in Sussex, England on September 6th - 8th. This event celebrates motor racing from principally the 1950s (and early 1960s) and is steeped in tradition and nostalgia, held at a racing circuit that used to be used for Formula 1 races amongst other things. Indeed, the nostalgia extends to most attendees dressing up in period clothing! The event consists of thirteen races in total (four on Saturday 7th, and nine on Sunday 8th).

Nick took part in a number of events, as did Pink Floyd manager Steve O'Rourke. Here's a run-down of what they appeared in, and how they did:

Graham Hill Tribute: A parade and gridline display commemorating his racing career. Nick entered his 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO 62 (in which Hill came second in the 1962 TT at Goodwood), and Steve entered a 1957 BRM Type 25 (Hill used in 1960 in his debut for BRM in Argentina). Not a race so no results.

Freddie March Memorial Trophy: A ninety minute two-driver race for cars in the spirit of the Goodwood Nine-Hour races held between 1952-1955. Nick and Annette Mason (his wife) entered a 1949 Frazer Nash Le Mans, which finished 14th.

Richmond & Gordon Trophies: A fifteen lap race for Inter-Continental and F1 cars of a type that raced between 1954 and 1961. Steve O'Rourke entered the 1957 BRM again, and he managed to finish 13th.

RAC TT Celebration: A one hour, two-driver race for closed-cockpit GT cars 1960-1964. Nick drove with Bobby Rahal in a 1963 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ1 but only managed one lap before retiring, and Steve (with Derek Bell) entered a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTO SWB/C. On Sunday for the race itself, Steve was replaced by Alain De Cadenet. The car lasted just two laps before retiring.

Glover Trophy: A sixteen lap race for 1.5 litre F1 and F1-based Tasman cars 1961-1965. Steve entered a 1962 Lotus-Climax 24, and finished 12th.

Sussex Trophy: A fourteen lap race for World Championship sports cars and production sports-racing cars of a type that raced between 1956-1960. Steve entered a 1957 Lister-Jaguar "Knobbly", but only completed 8 laps before stopping, and Nick entered his 1959 Maserati Tipo61 "Birdcage", and finished a very respectable 7th.

Released in Japan on August 21st 2002: "Stamping Ground: The Holland Festival Of Music in Rotterdam (June 1970)". Columbia COBY-90358, running time is 90 minutes, and is an NTSC Region 2 disc, with PCM stereo sound. This DVD features 2 Floyd songs (as on previous video releases): Set the Controls & Saucerful of Secrets.

Also released in Japan: "POP Frontier Dancing In The Street Volume 5: Eight Miles High". BBC Worldwide NSDS-5070, running time of 69 minutes, and is also an NTSC Region 2 disc, featuring Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo sound. This DVD features the same Floyd songs and interviews as on the original 1996 video release: Arnold Layne (promo), Apples & Oranges (American Bandstand) and Roger Waters interview.

The latest news is that the BBC Omnibus documentary on Syd Barrett is being seriously considered for DVD and VHS release in the "possibly not too distant future". This information has come from author David Parker, who wrote the excellent "Random Precision" book. More information as we get it.
