Dark Side Of The Moon SACD Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 23 March 2003

The high-end audio specialist website, High Fidelity Review, managed to get the only advance copy of the Dark Side Of The Moon SACD, and have reviewed it here. Naturally they have access to the best possible equipment so give it a very close technical assessment. (Our thanks to the number of readers who have let us know about this). Review copies are today being issued to the rest of the media in the US, in advance of the title hitting American shelves tomorrow (March 25th).

Naturally, we shall be forming our own view on this new version, but we are keen to hear what YOU think of it, from the packaging, to the music itself. Let us know, and a selection of your comments will be posted on this site.

The folks over at Universal confirmed the release of Roger Waters' "The Wall Live In Berlin 1990" on DVD to us this afternoon. With a thirty minute documentary, together with a commentary throughout the show from Roger, release is set for April 28th in the UK, and possibly a week earlier in other territories (but this is not 100% definite, and subject to change). We should have more details from them shortly, so watch this space!

Storm Thorgerson's Mind Over Matter - revised third edition Print E-mail

Thursday, 20 March 2003

The newly revised, third edition of Storm Thorgerson's excellent book, "Mind Over Matter", is now out. With a new cover, the hardback edition ties in nicely with the Dark Side celebrations. In total, it has around twenty five additional pages to the second edition, and the new material covers:

  • The twenty-fifth anniversary campaign for Wish You Were Here
  • Echoes - looking at the CDs, the vinyl, and the posters in great detail
  • Live At Pompeii - the forthcoming DVD release; the menus, the cover, how the film needed to be reformatted, and the extras included
  • PULSE DVD - if it ever happens; included are proposed cover art, depending on if it is a one- or two-disc edition, together with the DVD menus
  • Dark Side Of The Moon 30th Anniversary edition - some preliminary work on this, with some (very) alternate cover designs

Some very nice additions but not quite enough perhaps if you already have the second edition. Those without it should not hesitate to snap it up, and those with the first edition should find enough new material to justify the purchase. It is published by Sanctuary Publishing, at £29.95 in the UK.

The campaign to promote the release of the new edition of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon continues apace; seen today was a poster for the album, with ANOTHER stained-glass design, and the words: HAVE YOU GOT A DARK SIDE? Interesting to note that the UK release date on this latest artwork was promised as March 24th...
