This coming Sunday (5th November)
sees Nick Mason taking part in the 73rd annual London to Brighton
Veteran Car Run, the world's longest running motoring event.
It attracts vintage cars and
drivers from all over the world, to celebrate the introduction of the
Highway Act. This permitted "light locomotives" to increase their top
speed from 4mph (miles per hour)to 14mph and abolished the requirement
to be preceded by a man on foot carrying a red flag!
Whilst Nick can normally be seen
behind the wheel of faster cars, he has, for a number of years, entered
his 1901 Panhard et Levassor into the event, and most years, has done
all the driving himself - whatever the weather may bring!

Sidling quietly onto North American
record store shelves at the start of this month (October 3rd, to be
exact) came a slightly different looking version of the Pink Floyd's
"best of" compilation, Echoes.
Released by Capitol in the US,
and EMI Music Canada north of the border, the new edition features a
new, biodegradable wrap. Whilst most wraps are fairly dispensible, this
one actually makes a point of its environmental credentials and even
suggests that you can safely discard it!

Roger Waters has been thrilling
European and North American crowds over the last few months with his
"Dark Side Of The Moon" tour, which has included Pink Floyd drummer
Nick Mason guesting on a few of the shows.
We've had many emails asking
where people can buy tour merchandise from. Recently, we told you about
a new webstore that had opened courtesy of Roger's official
merchandisers, Bravado. They have been back in contact with the great
news that the range has been expanded with more textile (clothing)
items, and is due to have even more goodies available within the coming
week hopefully!

Back in August, we reported that
Dutch station Radio 2 were broadcasting a string of legendary concerts,
and amongst these was Pink Floyd performing part of their 1969
Concertgebouw show.
The concert, held on September
17th at the plush Amsterdam venue, was recorded originally for airing
on Radio Hilversum. An hour of the recording was aired on Radio 2,
consisting of "The Man - The Journey" suite. This was an early
conceptual piece, which was never released in this form, although parts
were later used elsewhere. It tells the story of 24 hours in the life
of a man - sleeping and dreaming, getting up, going to work, and so on.

What does Jon Carin do when he’s not spread across the Pink Floyd universe?
To most of our readers, the multi-talented, multi-skilled Jon Carin
needs no introduction. For those who need a clue, he’s the man who has
been on tour and the in the studio with Pink Floyd (A Momentary Lapse
of Reason, on which he co-wrote “Learning to Fly”, and the follow up
album, The Division Bell, and their accompanying tours), David Gilmour,
and Roger Waters (In The Flesh Tour, since then a key part of his band
on and off the stage). He also performed with the reunited Pink Floyd
at Live8 at London’s Hyde Park in 2005.
