For those who are in Paris, France at some point over the next three months, an exhibition at the impressive Cite de la Musique could be worth a visit.

"Travelling Guitars", running from October 5th through to January 14th 2007, is a look at the development of the guitar, from the earliest days through to the current breed of electric guitar. Being held at the same venue as 2003's excellent "Pink Floyd: Interstellar" exhibition, this new event includes a guitar that was at that earlier event, making a return appearance!

Travelling GuitarsDavid Gilmour's 1955 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, which he used on the "Another Brick In The Wall (part 2)" solo, sits alongside other legendary performers guitars. Whilst you are there, you can see another Les Paul - Pete Townshend's Les Paul Deluxe, but unusually it is in good, unsmashed condition - alongside guitars from the likes of Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, and Jimmy Page, amongst others.

The exhibition doesn't just look at the role of the guitar in rock, taking a good look at its influence on the world of the blues, jazz and even classical music.

With film montages covering the history of the instrument, and classic performances, the event sounds fascinating.
