The second episode in the three-part BBC One TV series Imagine: The Story Of The Guitar, airs tonight (Sunday, October 12th) in the UK at 10.20pm. The series explores the history and culture surrounding the world's favourite instrument and the personal stories of those who have dedicated their lives to it.
The second programme continues the story of the evolution of the electric guitar from early experiments such as Rickenbacker's "Frying Pan"; to its eventual transformation into the solid-body instrument that would become the central plank of rock 'n' roll. According to a preview in today's Sunday Times, the programme includes David Gilmour enthusing about the Fender Stratocaster.
If you miss the show, and are in the UK, you can watch it on demand via the BBC's iPlayer service at their website, and on Virgin Media cable. And, if you want to watch a pair of exclusive clips of David talking to presenter Alan Yentob about the Pink Floyd sound, solos, bending strings and the expressive powers of the guitar, visit the BBC's Story Of The Guitar website now.

A quick reminder for you that tonight, Saturday October 11th, at 7pm, the UK's BBC Radio 2 presents the hour-long "Remember A Day: Richard Wright In His Own Words".
Drawing on BBC archive and an exclusive interview conducted by producer Mark Hagen in September 2007, the last radio interview that Wright gave, Richard offers his unique and now sadly poignant
perspective on 40 years as a member of one of the world's all time great rock bands. Music, all composed by Richard, includes Remember A Day, Us and Them, The Great Gig in the Sky, Sysyphus, Echoes, Wearing The Inside Out and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
BBC Radio 2 can be heard via FM, DAB and Digital Freeview, Virgin Media cable and Sky Satellite, and via www.BBC.co.uk.
UPDATE: UK residents can now hear it again, on demand, for seven days via this link at the BBC iPlayer site (which can also be found on the Virgin Media cable TV service).

The celebration of Syd Barrett taking part in Cambridge later this month, has just had an interesting
item gifted to it. The curiously titled, 12-page book Fart Enjoy was created in 1965 by Syd himself on seven cardboard pages, bound with Sellotape, and was sent as a reply to a friend, Andrew Rawlinson. Andrew had previously sent Syd the outline of Russia on a piece of paper and asked him to decorate it however he wished. The resultant blue-painted country was added to countries decorated by others, making an incredible global view.
Whilst most of Fart Enjoy was reproduced in the 2007, 40th anniversary edition CD of Pink Floyd's Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, it is only the second time the whole thing will have been displayed in public (the first time being 2003's superb Interstellar exhibition in Paris). The Syd Barrett trust, who have been kindly given it by Andrew, have put the whole book, along with Andrew's reminiscences, onto The City Wakes website for all to enjoy...

[Story updated with link to acceptance speech video]
Our congratulations to David Gilmour, who was this afternoon honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Music at Q Magazine's 2008 Awards. On receiving the well-deserved award, he was quoted as saying: "I'm going to dedicate this to my old friend and colleague Richard Wright who died a couple of weeks ago with whom I've worked for 40 odd years".
The ceremony, held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, is an annual event organised by the magazine, and this year the Outstanding Contribution award was sponsored by Gibson Guitars. David received a standing ovation as he was presented with the award, and toasted his late friend and bandmate.
