All of us here at Brain Damage would like to extend our very best wishes to
Richard Wright, who today, 28th July, will be celebrating his 65th birthday - a momentous occasion!
Richard was born in Hatch End, London, in 1943, and whilst at the
Regent Street Poly, met Roger Waters and Nick Mason, which lead to the
formation of Sigma 6 in 1963, the band that developed into Pink
Floyd... Over the years, Richard has made a unique, unforgettable
contribution to the band's music and overall "sound". A cornerstone of the band, the love and respect that the fans have for him was made clear during the 2006 David Gilmour tour, where Richard got a deserved standing ovation each night.
Many happy returns, Richard!

Thursday night saw the official launch for the opening of the unmissable exhibition, "Mind Over Matter: Images of Pink Floyd".
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Storm Thorgerson's first commission for Pink Floyd - the cover for 1968's "A Saucerful Of Secrets" - and the unique relationship between the band and artist, the exhibition (details below) travels through time revisiting those significant moments in their musical history.
It runs for two and a half weeks, and has on display all the creative results of musical and artistic collaboration between the Floyd and Storm. As you'll see below, you owe it to yourself (and to Storm!) to pay the exhibition a visit if you are in London over the next couple of weeks.

Sales of Pink Floyd's 1973 classic album Dark Side of the Moon show little sign of calming down, some 35 years after release. Although it has slipped recently to the high 20's in the Billboard Catalog chart, DSOTM recently eclipsed 31 years on the Pop & Catalog charts. Last week it had reached a staggering 1,615 weeks on the charts. Our thanks to Bill Dorn for this interesting statistic...

David Gilmour’s iconic ‘Black Strat’ Fender Stratocaster, the instrument that was so integral to the creation of the revolutionary Pink Floyd sound, will be released as a ‘Signature Model’ by Fender on September 22nd 2008 [click thumbnail, left].
This is to coincide with the release of the Live In Gdansk album, which has been delayed by one week and also hits the streets on that day (and the following day, Tuesday September 23rd, in North America).
As many of you will be aware, work has been ongoing on this guitar for a while now - some two years. The Fender ‘Black Strat’ Signature Model has been created by the combined input of David Gilmour, Fender Custom Shop's Mike Eldred and Todd Krause, plus that of David’s long-standing guitar technician Phil Taylor. They endeavoured to create a final product that is tailored to the highest possible standards and yet still be affordable to both fans and guitar players.

With Brain Damage starting life as a magazine, we have a good understanding of what it takes to produce a Floyd fanzine. Our friends over at the Italian "Hey You" website have just published the latest issue - number 12 - of their interesting Hey You fanzine.
The 52-page magazine in Italian and English includes a look at the Pink Floyd story from September 1967, when problems resulted in - briefly - the five-man line-up, before Syd was dropped from the band; there's a look at the excellent Pink Floyd In De Polder book (more on that here); Roger Waters' 2008 tour is covered, and there's a piece on the AHM concerts in London last month.
More details can be found at www.heyou.it, and subscription enquiries (four issues costing 20 euros
within Europe, 30 euros elsewhere, including priority airmail) should go to
