Pink Floyd discussed in Sunday Times Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 22 March 2009

Sunday Times 22 March 2009Today's (UK) Sunday Times newspaper has a long feature article by Robert Sandall in their magazine looking at "why nothing - not even $250m - can put the pieces of Pink Floyd together again". The article - which can be read online here - is an interesting analysis of both the problems that beset the band in the past, and just why another reunion is unlikely ever to take place.

Whilst there is nothing new in the article (indeed, factually there are some major errors, particularly with dates, and other parts seem to be supposition on the part of the writer) it is an interesting look at some of the aspects of the band, and worth a read.

Rosemary Breen In the build up to the official launch of The Syd Barrett Trust, which takes place on June 11th in Cambridge, the people behind it are holding a Q&A session with Rosemary Breen, Syd Barrett's sister. They are keen to hear from any Brain Damage visitors who might have some good questions for Rosemary, so get your thinking caps on; it is a good opportunity to ask those burning questions you might have.

There's no guarantees that every one received can be asked, or that Rosemary will choose to answer all of them, but we're sure that a number of you will have some excellent questions, which will elicit some fascinating answers. Please send your questions in to the normal email address of This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to reach us by the evening of March 30th. You can find out more about the trust at www.Syd-Barrett-Trust.org.uk.

Floyd tribute band - worldwide webcast Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 18 March 2009

Due to the incredible number of Pink Floyd tribute bands out there, in the interests of fairness it isn't normally possible to provide coverage of them - there's probably at least one such concert each day somewhere in the world! However, on the odd occasion a show deserves a mention...

Audiences in California (and beyond) have been enjoying the LA-based Which One's Pink for some time, and we've mentioned them previously on these pages. In what we think is a first, they will be broadcasting a live internet feed worldwide of their show from the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA, on Friday (March 20th) at 9pm Pacific Daylight Time (use TimeAndDate.com to work out when that is in your time zone).

They promise a set chock full of Floyd classics, including 'Animals' in its entirety. More details will be at www.WhichOnesPink.com in due course.

Joe Boyd discusses his life and career - upcoming talk Print E-mail

Monday, 16 March 2009

Joe BoydOn Sunday, May 17th, legendary producer Joe Boyd discusses and reads from White Bicycles, his funny and fascinating memoir of the legendary musicians he launched, managed or supported including Nick Drake, Muddy Waters, Fleetwood Mac, the Incredible String Band and Pink Floyd.

The event, part of the English Originals Folk Festival 2009, is being held at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, at 4:30pm that day, and tantalisingly is billed as "Joe Boyd and guests in conversation". Some of you will recall he did a similar talk in May 2006 as part of the Brighton Festival, and he had Robert Wyatt on stage with him.

This new talk promises to be equally as fascinating, whoever is guesting, and tickets, priced at £3.50, are on sale now here, or phone 0121-780-3333.

Zabriskie Point getting US DVD release Print E-mail

Zabriskie Point DVD - USA 2009Warner Home Video are, at long last, releasing an official DVD of the 1970 movie Zabriskie Point in the US. The DVD hits US stores on June 30th, 2009, and means that Pink Floyd fans in that country will no longer need to suffer the various pirate versions that are around, most of which are of poor quality.

The movie of course features some very interesting Pink Floyd music in it - otherwise unreleased alternate versions of the band's songs, such as "Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up" (a close relation of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene") alongside some new songs.

One of Michelangelo Antonioni's more noted movies, pre-orders for the DVD - at time of writing, with a 25% discount - can be placed with Amazon.com.
