Next month sees the US release on the high def Blu-ray format, and standard DVD format, of Channel 4's highly regarded Live From Abbey Road: The Best Of Season 1. Hitting stores on November 11th, the 2-disc release, with a 220 minute running time, brings together some of the best performances from the whole series, along with some additional material, including extended interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, and photo galleries.
The show takes artists into the hallowed London studios, and with the only audience being the TV cameras and technicians, they record a selection of songs later broadcast in the twelve hour-long episodes. Augmented with interviews, the shows cut through the normal visual effects and studio trickery to showcase the music itself.
The highlight for us is David Gilmour, Richard Wright, and the rest of David's band, on disc 2. Details aren't forthcoming yet as to what's on the package, but the original UK DVD included David's On An Island track.
The suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $26.98, but Amazon.com have knocked 26% off at time of writing - order the Live From Abbey Road Blu-ray here, or if you want the DVD, here.

As you'll see by visiting the special Black Strat microsite, the much lusted-after replica of David Gilmour's iconic Black Strat guitar is now available as of the start of this week.
Amongst the things on offer in the packed mini-site is a detailed look at the two different versions of the guitar - the "Relic" and the "N.O.S". There's pictures aplenty, there's video footage from LiG, they tell the story of the Black Strat itself, there's six different desktop wallpapers, and you can find all the retailers worldwide who are stocking it. For those who are tempted by either model there's good news, as there's seemingly a wider release of these Custom Shop signature model instruments than usual.
This also means that the revised and expanded hardback version of Phil Taylor's wonderful book "The Black Strat" is now available in the US, and in other countries just as soon as they arrive from the US publishers. Perfect for the guitar aficionado and the non-guitar-playing, Gilmour fan alike, it can be ordered through the following
special links at a healthy discount at time of writing: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, or Amazon France.

With the release this week of Live in Gdansk, David Gilmour has been talking to various parts of the world's press. First, he takes New Zealand's 3News on a leisurely tour of his houseboat recording studio Astoria.
He said: "I didn't even think about putting a studio in it at first. It was just very, very beautiful, a magical place. Well it's lovely to be here, you know, to have the water gently drifting past us and all that, and I like to have windows. You know I've spent rather too much time in studios and most of them don't have windows, and I can't stand being in places that don't have windows."
View the article here, and a three minute video of the interview here.

They will be airing extracts of an exclusive interview that presenter Laurent Rieppi conducted with David a few days ago about the release of "Live in Gdansk". Once broadcast, the show will be available to download - worldwide - via the www.Classic21.be website, where you can also get the two-hour Richard Wright tribute from September 21st via this link.
Laurent interviewed Snowy White a few days ago and they talked about "Wet Dream" by Richard Wright. They'll broadcast a special show about this album soon, but in the meantime here's a 2 minute audio clip of Snowy talking about Richard, from their "Journal du Rock" show this week.

At the weekend, Nick Mason returned to Glorious Goodwood in the heart of Sussex, in the south of England, for the 10th Anniversary of the Revival Meeting. This famous, classic motoring event, held over three full days (September 19th-21st) also marked the 60th Anniversary of the post-war racetrack opened by Lord March's grandfather.
Nick, who committed to the event some time ago, made it a family event sharing the racing honours with wife Annette and daughter Holly. The weather was perfect for this event and Nick's cars were turned out superbly.
