David Gilmour contributes to upcoming Gary McKinnon campaign CD Print E-mail

Gary McKinnonFurther to our story of March 26th concerning David Gilmour's contribution to a "sing-in" protest against the extradition to the US of Scot Gary McKinnon, we have an interesting update for you.

McKinnon is accused of hacking into US military websites. He has said he broke into them hoping to uncover evidence of UFOs, and his plight has gathered a lot of high profile support. David himself said: "Gary McKinnon should not be being extradited to the USA for his naïve hacking. It is a heavy handed response from the US and it's hard to understand that the English justice system could not be more effectively used to prevent this. I am hoping that common sense will prevail".

His supporters, lead by his mother Janis Sharp, are putting together a compilation CD which will include David's contribution.

Pink Floyd in legal tussle Print E-mail

Many parts of the media worldwide are now reporting that Pink Floyd are in the process of suing EMI, after claims that the company has miscalculated royalty payments. The Observer newspaper in the UK broke the story on Sunday, and noted that the band have been one of EMI's most lucrative signings, with only The Beatles outselling them.

EMI was taken over in 2007 by Terra Firma, and since then some major acts have left the label, most notably Radiohead, Paul McCartney and The Rolling Stones. The Observer say that industry insiders think the legal action is likely to have flared up amid routine three-yearly negotiations over royalty payments.

Both EMI and Pink Floyd have declined to comment. Our thanks to all those who have written in about this story.

The show was aimed at raising awareness for the environment and to help raise funds for the Global Green organization, a charity active in rebuilding post-Katrina New Orleans and advocates of energy efficiency. The band including Corey Feldman was comprised of Rob Heskin (guitars/writer), Chuck Irwin (drums/writer), and Randy Morris (bass). Nick Mason in Ferrari 512

For those who are in the East Midlands area of the UK, and are not doing anything on Wednesday (April 22nd), a trip to Cadwell Park might prove interesting. Nick Mason will be flying in by helicopter to drive his rather glorious, £1.5million Ferrari 512.

The car was raced in 1970 by legends Mario Andretti, Ronnie Peterson and Arturo Merzario, and was seen in the 1971 movie Le Mans, which starred Steve McQueen.

The event is a track test event for specialist publications Octane (which Nick has an entertaining, monthly column in), 911, and Porsche World. Click on the thumbnails to the right to see Nick in/with the car itself, at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed.

UPDATE: We now understand that the track day is not open to the general public. Expect full reports on the day though in Octane, 911 and Porsche World magazines in due course.
