At midnight it was officially announced that David Gilmour had received the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) award, for his services to music, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
This was one of a handful of such rewards made to musicians to reward longevity in their industry - his charity work is yet to be officially recognised by the Queen; an OBE or knighthood next year perhaps?
Brain Damage offers our heartiest congratulations to David for this award - well deserved and about time that a "Floyd" was honoured!

October 10th sees a new exhibition of Pink Floyd artwork being held at the Cite de la Musique (Museum Of Music) in Paris (situated in avenue Jean Jaures). The Storm Thorgerson-led exhibition, entitled "Pink Floyd Interstellar", is based on the band's album history, and Brain Damage creator Glenn Povey has been approached to help out.
As we understand it, each room in the exhibition will be themed according to each album. As we get more information for you, we will pass it on...

A French production company is promoting Peter Whitehead's Pink Floyd London '66-'67 on DVD, and Amazon France is currently stating that the release will be released on September 17th.
As yet, we have no further details of this title, other than it will obviously contain at the very least, the footage that was released on VHS Video under the same title. This included Interstellar Overdrive and Nick's Boogie.
We are currently trying to get more details for you all of this exciting release... Our thanks to our friend Kees Nijpels for alerting us to this release in the first place!

A number of French retailers (Amazon.fr, FNAC, and others) have all recently been making claims that the Pink Floyd's Live At Pompeii DVD will be on sale this month.
Unfortunately this is not the case - the correct date for the Region 2 (Europe) DVD is October 20th. We are in regular contact with the Product Manager at Universal who is handling the release of this title, and she has confirmed that this is the correct date. Obviously, if this changes, we will pass the information on to you all.

Today's UK newspaper The Times includes a large feature and profile on Emily Young, a 51-year old sculptor. Included in the article is recognition that she was Syd's inspiration for See Emily Play:
"It's a sort of non-story really", she says. "My friend and I used to go dancing on a Friday night, and the band was this thing called The Pink Floyd Sound. I didn't pay that much attention to them because I was sort of dancing around and chatting - there was a bunch of crazy people in Notting Hill in those days, lots of poets and beatnik types. Somebody wrote a biography of Syd Barrett the other day and they said that I was a fan and that's why I was there. And I have to say that I really wasn't - I barely paid attention to the band because I was far more interested in these beat poets.
"But apparently Syd saw me and my friend, and they knew we were 'well-born' and for some reason, he decided to write this song.
"Maybe we shared a joint..." She shrugs almost dismissively. "It's not like it was a love song or anything". That may be so, but she keeps a copy on her studio wall - well, wouldn't you?
