Our friend John Cavanagh, author of the excellent new book "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" (which can be ordered through Amazon.com for US/Canadian readers, or Amazon.co.uk for UK/Europe) is hosting an official launch night in his home land.
If you can make it along to Monorail Music, King's Court, King Street in Glasgow, at 9pm on Sunday November 9th, you will see John reading excerpts from the book, and renowned Scottish band Teenage Fanclub will be performing versions of songs from "Piper" exclusively for this event. To celebrate ten years of the UK based music magazine Mojo, they have polled their readers for their top 100 bands, listed with each performer's "world-changing moment". Pink Floyd sit at number 12 - their moment of course being the release of DSOTM - beaten by the likes of the Sex Pistols (number 11), Led Zep (10), Lennon (8), Hendrix (6), Stones (5), Beatles (4), Dylan (2), and The King - Elvis Presley - at the top of the pile...

Sony and Rolling Stone magazine are joining forces to promote the new SACD format, with the aim to get mainstream consumer support for it. Rolling Stone will be compiling their own "Top 500 Albums of All Time" list, and with the "Best Of" issue will be a hybrid SACD with a selection of tracks for Rolling Stone readers to enjoy. The track listing has yet to be announced but both a CD compatible stereo version and an SACD surround sound track will be included on the disc.

A fascinating and thought-provoking article appeared in the UK Sunday Express newspaper on September 7th, setting out the inspiration David Gilmour had for selling his London home and giving the proceeds to Crisis, the homelessness charity. Esther Samson, mother of his wife Polly, was the subject of the article. She experienced homelessness first-hand, and her story - set on the streets of London and China - is an absorbing one. We were contacted late on Friday evening by a close friend of Storm Thorgerson's, with the very sad news that Storm had suffered a stroke and was being cared for in a Parisian hospital. At that time, news was a little sketchy and Storm's exact condition was not known.
