Nick Mason braves the storm Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 02 November 2003

Yesterday (Sunday) saw possibly the worst weather ever experienced on the annual London To Brighton Veteran Car Run. Howling gales drove the torrential rain sideways, stripping the trees off leaves, blocking drains and leaving the roads flooded and treacherous even for today's modern cars, fitted with good brakes and all-weather tyres!

Despite this, Nick Mason again rolled out his trusty 1901 Panhard et Levasser, open-topped car, and finished a remarkable third! A good number broke down en route, and quite a few didn't even make it over the starting line...

Wall figurines now available to order Print E-mail

The figurines from The Wall, which we reported on some months ago, can now be ordered from TheWallDirect.com. The producers of these maquettes chose the particular characters as "the most recognisable" from The Wall. They said: "These stunning, statuesque figures measure 6" to 8" each and are available from thewalldirect.com in a giant, limited collector's edition boxed set that includes a sixth figure not available individually!

"The boxed set includes Scorpion & Pink, Teacher, Marching Hammers, Eagle Warplane, Judge and the exclusive Megaphone Hammer not available outside of this special edition boxed set. Each maquette comes with its own section of the Wall, and the wall sections interlock to form a truly amazing display piece nearly 3 feet long."

Wyclef's Wish You Were Here cover version released Print E-mail

Sunday, 02 November 2003

Wyclef Jean, the musician who is not afraid of showing off his influences and tastes in music, releases his greatest hits album tomorrow (Tuesday November 4th) in the US, and on November 24th in the UK.

Amongst the cover versions included on the album are "Knockin' On Heaven's Door", and the Floyd's "Wish You Were Here". Rather than a straight cover, Wyclef lends his own unique style to WYWH, giving a sympathetic and interesting treatment to the track, adding in a few lyrics of his own. It can be ordered through Amazon.com for US/Canadian readers, or Amazon.co.uk for UK/Europe. Buying anything from Amazon once you've got into the site using one of our links, really helps us - and we appreciate it!

BBC archives being opened to all Print E-mail

Sunday, 02 November 2003

The BBC have announced that their extensive archives, covering both television and radio, are being opened up to all, with free access to the BBC Creative Archive via the internet. They will be free as long as the downloader is not intending to use the material for any commercial purpose.

The Floyd material should include many items of audio, such as the 1967 radio sessions, and the 1970 and 1971 performances. The 1967 Top Of The Pops TV appearances were wiped some time ago, so will not be included, sadly.
