Bryn Terfel talks of Roger Waters' opera Print E-mail

Tuesday, 27 January 2004

In yesterday's New Zealand Herald, the Welsh opera singer Bryn Terfel talks at length about his career to date, and his love of golf, and briefly discusses his work with Roger Waters on the forthcoming opera Ca Ira.

The present challenge is a rock opera written by another golf buddy, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. "It's wonderful to see things from The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon coming through in the music."

The full interview is available at the New Zealand Herald website.

In an interview published in La Scena Musicale in April 2002, Bryn's career is analysed in detail, and includes this question:

Your career is very varied -- opera, concerts, crossover, Welsh songs. Do you consider yourself a singer rather than a particular type of singer?

"I do. I enjoy all aspects of singing and I'm luckily given the choice to be part of different styles of music. I've just been talking this week with the director of Sweeney Todd in Chicago. Music is there for you to learn to perform to the best of your ability. I worked with Roger Waters from Pink Floyd last year on an opera he had written and it gave me a taste of how these people work. They had already recorded the orchestral tracks, so we were singing to a video of the conductor and listening to the orchestral tracks. Roger was there with us, changing words and music as we performed. It was very interesting."
