The well-respected, UK published Classic Rock Magazine is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd's 1979 album, The Wall with the UK's first ever high definition 3D lenticular magazine cover - and with thanks to the publishers, you can get your first look at the cover here at Brain Damage - click the thumbnail to the left to see the main design in more detail.
The cover of the December 2009 issue of Classic Rock is an exclusively created Pink Floyd montage created in dazzling 3D – featuring much of the band's iconic imagery, including the hammers, prism and flying pig. Created with sophisticated new origination software and enhanced design techniques the cover was a three-way collaboration between Classic Rock's Art Editor, Brad Merrett, Future Publishing's pre-press team and Hive Associates 3D Studio.
And having seen the depth and movement on the cover, we think it's quite a beauty - we can already think of a few people who might be tempted to frame it!

A lot of focus has been made on the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd's The Wall. However, another of their releases is celebrating this year - Ummagumma marks its' 40th anniversary, and to commemorate this, a set of three special items has been created and is available on the US and European official Pink Floyd online stores.
You can order each item individually, or plump for a specially-priced bundle comprising the whole set [click thumbnail to the right]. On offer is a very nice, sepia-toned image of the cover on a t-shirt; a 4"x4" Ummagumma sticker; and a limited edition, five-colour embossed lithograph designed by Storm Thorgerson. Set on heavy weight fine arts paper, each lithograph is on 24" square paper, with the image being 19" square, and will be signed by Storm, which makes this a very good deal indeed at the price they are asking. And, in clarification, ALL the lithos are signed, whether or not they are in the great value bundle.
The stickers and t-shirts will ship from November 14th, and the lithographs will ship in December 2009. Place your orders now at the Official Pink Floyd Webstore.

"Listening to the best of their output from before, during and after my own involvement with the band," says David Gilmour, "has reminded me of the many great songs and great moments in the studio that we shared all those years ago. It's been a long time coming, but it has been worth the wait."
David's comments about his work with UK country rock band Unicorn will whet the appetites of those who will be snapping up the first time CD releases of two rare albums from the band, both of which were produced by David. 'Blue Pine Trees' and 'Too Many Crooks' will be released by premier reissue label Renaissance Records in conjunction with ItsAboutMusic.com on November 11th. The original master tapes were remastered by Andy Jackson at David's Astoria houseboat studio, and the results are apparently stunning.
As the following attests, the coming together of Unicorn (possibly the godfathers of the country rock genre) and David Gilmour is an interesting story...

On sale now are tickets for a special show being held on Saturday, November 28th at the Indigo at the O2, the prestigious venue in the heart of London's Dockland area.
The "In The Flesh Laser Spectacular" is a one-off event that Pink Floyd fans won't want to miss, promising a show featuring earlier Floyd tracks (to many, their "golden era") alongside a state-of-the-art laser system which has never been used in a concert like this.
And, thanks to Brain Damage founder Glenn Povey, we have a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky BD visitor!

The current issue (number 116, cover date November 2009) of German music magazine "Eclipsed" (a suitably Floydie name if ever we heard one!) includes a feature on the 30th anniversary of Pink Floyd's The Wall within its pages. Not having seen the issue yet, we cannot confirm how sizeable it is, or how wide-ranging it is in scope.
Other articles in the magazine cast their net in diverse directions, with a look at the careers of the great British singer/songwriter Ray Davies, Genesis (specifically, in the live setting), and The New Model Army (amongst others).
The magazine is now available on bookstands and in stores across Germany, and more information (and contact details for mail order enquiries) can be found at www.Eclipsed.de . Our thanks to Oliver Krajewski for the info.
