In around six weeks time, a group of Syd Barrett fans and associates of Escape Artists will be walking from London to Cambridge to raise money for the Syd Barrett Fund - a distance of some 60 miles. When Syd left London and returned home to Cambridge at the beginning of the eighties he decided to walk the whole way, and over the Easter weekend the Syd Barrett Memorial Walk will take place.
The challenge will begin at the Roundhouse in Camden, a venue Syd played with Pink Floyd in the mid 60s, and his sister Rosemary, founder of the Fund, has good memories of seeing him perform there. She also explains the background to one of the key places in Cambridge the walkers are heading for.
"While in London during the 60s it was very exciting because Syd was there too and that's when it all took off. I remember going to see him at The Roundhouse and having a great time."

Bryan Ferry has this evening revealed via his newsletter that David Gilmour was at Hugh Padgham's studio in West London last week, adding his talents to Bryan's upcoming, and as yet untitled, solo album [see thumbnail, right].
In 1985 David famously played on Ferry's album 'Boys and Girls', the single 'Is Your Love Strong Enough' and later that year on stage at Live Aid in London. He is added to the impressive list of musicians who have played on the new record, which include Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist (and sometime Thom Yorke sideman) Flea. He is also enlisting the services of Chic's legendary Nile Rodgers.
The album is currently due for release in May 2010, and we will bring you more information as it becomes available...

The official Syd Barrett website has this afternoon received a fresh new look, with a cleaner, more colourful aspect, complete with a psychedelic, gently swirling background!
First launched in December 2008, SydBarrett.com is a wonderful website for the founding member of Pink Floyd. It is a celebration of his life and work, covering not just his music, but with a strong focus on his major passion which spanned his whole life - art.
The site includes a news section, a biography, and discography. The main attraction of the site for many though is the gallery, split into Syd's artworks, and photos of Syd. And, with the site being updated by the nice people at Jabeye, it's the perfect time to visit www.SydBarrett.com if you haven't already...

If a recent interview (published today) with John Lydon (better known to many as Johnny Rotten) for the Quietus website and their sister paper The Stool Pigeon is to be believed, the former lead singer of The Sex Pistols is keen to re-record a new version of The Dark Side Of The Moon with Roger Waters or the other surviving members of Pink Floyd.
In the interview, he revealed that he came very close to performing part of the album with Roger during Roger's LA show in 2008.
Despite notoriety for wearing a "I Hate Pink Floyd" t-shirt on stage [right], he came clean in typical forthright style: "Listen, you'd have to be daft as a brush to say you didn't like Pink Floyd. They've done great stuff. They've done rubbish too. Dark Side of the Moon I love. But I go right back to when they were with Syd Barrett. But I grew up with all kinds of music".
The grilling of John about his love of Pink Floyd, and his relationship with Roger Waters and David Gilmour, can be read in full at TheQuietus.com. The full John Lydon interview will be published there next week, and will be available in The Stool Pigeon which can be obtained from selected stockists.
