DATE CHANGED BBC Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon show on Wednesday (September 15th), includes Steve interviewing Nick Mason. As yet, we're not sure why Nick will be there, although we are sure that it'll be typically entertaining, with Nick's dry wit to the fore.
The show airs between 2pm-5pm BST (GMT+1hr). BBC Radio 2 can be heard on DAB and FM radio, via Freeview, Sky satellite and Virgin Media cable, and via www.BBC.co.uk/radio2, which will allow listeners around the world to tune in. The BBC's iPlayer service (at their website, and on Virgin Media) will allow listening on demand for seven days from the date of broadcast, principally for those in the UK, but this does also work in some other countries. Our thanks to Rob Sadler for the tip-off!

The Day Goes By is a work-in-progress children's book written by Anna Cooper, focused on a day in the life of Syd Barrett. The story "combines the whimsy that was ever-present in Syd's songs, as well as the struggle that comes from having too many possibilities from which to choose; a situation that both children and adults can relate to".
After Syd passed away in July 2006, his sister Rosemary Breen set up the Syd Barrett Fund with profits from Syd's estate to raise money for the organization. It seems Rosemary loved the book and she is supportive of getting it published. She has spoken in interviews about her brother's own fascination with children's stories and fantasy, and believes this book would be "a wonderful way of honouring his memory". Word is spreading about this book, and initially, you can find out more info, and see some of the artwork, here...

As described by BD regular Guntmar Ploetzke last month, now open in Hannover, Germany, is the latest Gerald Scarfe exhibition, Heroes and Monsters. It covers his extensive career drawing satirical and political cartoons, alongside work for people like Pink Floyd (such as The Wall). Guntmar visited it when Gerald was also there to launch the show, and you can read his report here.
The exhibition is at the Wilhelm Busch Museum In the Georgengarten in Hannover, and is open every day (11am to 6pm) Tuesday to Sunday until October 24th, 2010. However, if you are in the area this coming Sunday (September 19th) you can catch Gerald giving a talk at the museum at 3pm. Tickets are €4,50 each, for this unmissable event. More details of the museum can be found here. Our thanks to Adrian Childs-Clarke for the info.

A select few had their collective minds blown last night (Sunday, September 12th) by all accounts, with a "special dress rehearsal" of Roger Waters The Wall Live show at the Izod Center, in East Rutherford, NJ. This venue will see a couple of concerts at the start of November, but last night a fraction of the audiences expected later in the year faced very tight security to enjoy what we hear was a knockout performance.
As one commentator put it: "Tonight I had the chance to see a preview of Roger Waters The Wall in all of its rock glory at the Izod center in NJ where Roger is rehearsing for his upcoming tour. The Wall has always been on my bucket list, so I jumped at the chance to see this new updated live version. I have to tell you that this is much more than a concert, it is an experience and the show has been updated with state-of-the-art technology and new political themes that make the show as relevant and fresh as it was 30 years ago. I know the tickets are expensive, but you have never seen anything like this before. Check out this interview where Roger discusses the ideas behind the new show. If you only see one show this year, make sure it is this one."

Released recently is the new Jackie Leven CD, Boîte de Pandore, which includes three tracks featuring guitar work from David Gilmour.
The tracks were originally from an unreleased Doll By Doll album entitled A Last Flick of the Golden Wrench, and are called "Meet Me at the Top of the World", "Heartbeat", and "Last Summer".
Leven was the singer and head of Doll By Doll, a band who enjoyed quite a cult following. Their albums are finally getting a CD release, and Boîte de Pandore is a sort of supplement to these. Bizarrely, one of the tracks has a brief interlude of Leven walking down the street, due to him having the recorder he did the demo on, being in his pocket and accidentally hitting the record button!
Our thanks to Folkert Wagenaar for the information, pictures, and help with this article. For more information on Leven, visit www.jackieleven.co.uk, although his site doesn't yet mention this album...
