Roger Waters has spoken to BBC News arts correspondent Rebecca Jones for BBC Radio 4's Today Programme, in the run-up to the UK/European dates which we expect to be announced today. The BBC note that he will be taking the show to more than 30 cities from next May, including concerts at the O2 Arena in London, and Manchester.
In the interview, which you can read here, Roger explains the album's genesis, why he is reviving it now, and reveals an offer to get back together with his former bandmates.
They asked him why he is touring The Wall: "I decided to dip my toe back into the world of the touring rock 'n' roll person back at the turn of the century. Two years ago and the year before that I did a tour with the whole of The Dark Side of the Moon. So last year I was thinking, well, what am I going to do? Shall I just play golf or garden or go into politics, or have I got one more of these in me? I'm 66 years old now. So I thought, I think I have got one more. And I love to work. I shall certainly go on working but whether I'll do any more big tours I don't know. My fiancee said to me, if you're going to go out and do it again, do The Wall. That's what people will want to hear."
They also asked him if this was to be his farewell tour: "I wouldn't go that far, but yeah, it could be. I don't know what else I would do. In 2011 we're putting my opera on again in five cities in the south of Brazil. That's another thing that's very close to my heart. So there is always work to be done."

Back in March, we told you about "Barrett", a new book which the publishers describe as "the definite visual companion to the creative work of Roger 'Syd' Barrett". A limited edition, high quality, large-format book, it focuses on the creative life of Syd. It's been authorised by the Syd Barrett Estate and a percentage of the sales from it will go to the Estate.
We've had a special preview of a number of the images to be included, and we are certain that this will be an absolutely essential book for all fans of Syd Barrett and the early Pink Floyd. It's a mesmerizing selection of pictures, not just Syd's artwork and letters (incredible in themselves), but rare photos including live, backstage, and portrait images, and endearing family snapshots – a collection the like of which has not been seen before.
We got together with Russell Beecher, the author and compiler of "Barrett", to get an insight into the development of this book. Our interview with him follows a four minute video preview of the book (below), with various people, including Miles, talking about Syd and his love of art, and enthusing over the "amazing pictures" that have been lined up for "Barrett"...

Just released via YouTube is a new promo video for the Roger Waters 2010 Wall concerts, an extended version of that which was previously made available.
It is a great taster for the upcoming concerts, running at over ten minutes long with a blend of Roger talking about the album and the shows, footage from the original 1980/81 concerts (which looks great and really deserves to be released at long last!), and a look at the preparation/rehearsal work currently being undertaken by Roger and his team. You can also view it here:

The Roger Waters 2010 North American Wall tour has proved incredibly popular and we know many of you will be attending. We did a reasonably thorough check into ticketing availability over the weekend, due to the huge number of tickets that have hit eBay and similar sites, and to our great surprise, found that none of the shows appear to be sold out if you go through official routes.
Ticketmaster still have tickets in all price brackets for most, if not all, of Roger's upcoming concerts this year - this includes some pretty good floor tickets amongst those still available this morning. We've urged caution before over risking hard cash with scalpers, "ticket brokers" and various sites which promise tickets "for all sold out shows" (normally at a huge premium), and with what appears to be more tickets released recently, it's definitely worth paying Ticketmaster.com a visit to get genuine tickets at the original prices.

Over at DavidGilmour.com, there's some interesting new footage to be found on the homepage. Gavin Elder, the film-maker behind various documentary shoots of David recently, not least the Live In Gdańsk DVD, has been looking at some of the film shot at the Astoria studio during the On An Island sessions. The first clip released (click thumbnail, right) shows work in progress on "A Pocketful Of Stones".
It gives a fascinating, if brief, glimpse into the creative and recording process, and with the hopes of more clips in the future, something we hope is either carried on, or indeed the footage assessed for a full release (even if just via mail order at DavidGilmour.com).
In other news, the 1975 album from David Courtney, "David Courtney's First Day" has recently been released on CD for the first time. The album title is now "First Day - the Complete Story" and includes seven bonus tracks. Of particular interest to BD visitors is the news that David Gilmour plays the guitar on the track "When Your Life Is Your Own". It can be ordered from Play.com, HMV.com, Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, or Amazon Germany.
Our thanks to Folkert Wagenaar of fansite DavidGilmour.nl for the CD info.
