There is concern at the moment over a range of events coming up at New York City's Madison Square Garden, including Roger Waters performing The Wall on Saturday night (November 6th).
The building was closed to the public after a game there on Monday night, when overnight maintenance was undertaken, “which included cleaning asbestos-related materials in the attic above the ceiling, [and] some debris fell into the arena. We will not reopen the Garden until we are absolutely assured the arena is safe,” Garden officials said.
Last night's New York Knicks basketball game was cancelled, and our advice to those of you attending Roger's show, particularly if you are travelling any kind of distance, is to keep checking the venue's website for the latest information - www.TheGarden.com. Hopefully everything will be fine, and the venue will reopen in good time, but it's worth being aware of this possible issue.
UPDATE, Wednesday afternoon: Madison Square Garden is back in business, following tests which revealed a "false alarm" as to the presence of asbestos in the debris that fell during the maintenance. So, Roger's concert will go on as planned - excellent news!

David Gilmour's guitar work on 1979's Comfortably Numb, a track currently being performed as part of Roger Waters' Wall tour (and at some point, with David himself guesting for this part of the show), has thrilled fans for more than 30 years, with the track justifiably seen as one of Pink Floyd's classics.
To add to this, the track has just been named as the song with "the greatest guitar tone of all time" by the UK's respected Guitarist Magazine.
David beat other legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix (in second place with Voodoo Child), Hank Marvin, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Peter Green, George Harrison, Scotty Moore, BB King, and Jeff Beck.
The top five are as follows:
- David Gilmour - Comfortably Numb
- Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
- Eddie Van Halen - Sinner's Swing
- Brian May - Play The Game
- Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand The Weather

Regulars to Brain Damage over the years will know that our friend Joe Ringus is a hugely talented pumpkin artist, and each year crafts a Pink Floyd themed pumpkin for Hallowe'en (which is celebrated by many tonight).
Having done Wall themed pumpkins in the past, Joe thought that to do this again for 2010 what with Roger's current tour would be too obvious. Click the thumbnail to the right to enjoy this year's excellent pumpkin design... If you've missed the last couple of years' designs, click here to take a look.

Further to our recent stories regarding Gerald Scarfe's "The Making
of Pink Floyd: The Wall", including the set of three special video interviews with Gerald, for Brain Damage,
we now have a great competition for you to mark the UK publication this week of the book itself.
"The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall" is the authorized, definitive book
about the project and includes new commentaries from the surviving
members of Pink Floyd: Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason,
together with the director of the film, Sir Alan Parker. Roger Waters
has written the foreword. The album imagery, stage performances and film
were created in close collaboration with Gerald Scarfe, and his massive
archive includes original storyboards, animation cells, concept
drawings, models and other three-dimensional material together with
photographs of the creation and staging of the live performances and the
filming of The Wall.
Three lucky Brain Damage readers will win their own copy of this book - one of which will be especially signed by Gerald Scarfe himself!

"Syd Barrett: A Very
Irregular Head", book by Rob Chapman that is in stores now, has received glowing
reviews from the press and Pink Floyd fans alike. Published by Faber and Faber in the UK (cover thumbnail far right), and Da Capo Press in the US (cover thumbnail near right), it aims to be "the first authoritative and exhaustively researched biography of Syd Barrett that fully celebrates his life and legacy as a musician, lyricist and artist, and which highlights the influence that he continues to have over contemporary bands and music fans alike."
With the book running to some 448 pages, and the help of Syd's sister Rosemary, there is plenty of information that Chapman has brought together to tell Syd's story.
With thanks to our friends at Da Capo, we have two copies of this book to give away to lucky Brain Damage visitors in our latest contest...
