To tie in with the release of "An Introduction to Syd Barrett", today's issue of The Sun newspaper in the UK includes a two-page special spread that has interviews with Nick Mason, Storm Thorgerson, and Syd's sister Rosemary Breen.
Rosemary said of the compilation: "I'm really pleased with it and delighted that his work with Pink Floyd sits alongside his solo work. It does him proud". Nick talks about the early days of the Floyd with Syd, and mentions Piper At The Gates of Dawn. "I know it was only the first album of a band that has staggered on for 40-odd years but if it hadn't been for Syd, we wouldn't exist in the form we do or probably any form. I think it is nice to credit him with that".
Storm talks about childhood days with his friend, and also explains the thinking around the package design for "An Introduction to...". He said that it was "Firstly, to be vivid and colourful to reflect Syd's creative imagination. Secondly, to be varied and diverse, which is why there are illustrations to all his songs, and thirdly to hint at the darker, sadder side of Syd's life, hence the mirror which is not a mirror, the feather trees of autumn, and the escaping swan, breaking free from the confines of upbringing and education".

Music promo director Ben Ib has reimagined Gerald Scarfe's animations for Roger Waters' epic concert tour of The Wall, which takes in 110 shows both sides of the Atlantic. On the DigitalArtsOnline website, he talks about how he created the scenes for use at a massive scale, using CGI to expand and enhance Scarfe's well-known images.
Ib's work can be seen on Empty Spaces, Run Like Hell and Goodbye Blue Sky. Ib said: "The Wall album is unique in that it's visual identity goes hand in hand with it's musical identity. This was always going to be the starting point. But it was also important to give the work a real punch, something different, something that the audience hadn't seen before."
It's a fascinating look at quite a unique design project, which can be read through this link. It includes some of the alternate, rejected ideas, along with some of the finished frames of animation. By the sound of it, Ib had a great time working on The Wall: "The screen really is huge. This is the real difference with working on a live show as opposed to a music video. You can see first hand evidence of the visuals really exciting the audience, really adding to the show. Often too much screen time can water down a performance, but, seeing the show, in this case the fans are genuinely hungry for it, and to have the privilege of feeding their hunger is a great position to be in."

As you are no doubt aware, The Wall tour arrives in South Florida on November 13th and 14th, with a pair of shows in Fort Lauderdale. On Monday, November 15th, an off night of the tour, Harry will be making an appearance at a local Miami venue called "7th Circuit Studios" where he will be performing a set of his jazz music and jamming with a variety of local musicians (billed as the Moksha Allstars) at a kickoff to the arts season in South Florida.
Harry doesn't do many solo live appearances even in his hometown of London, and we hear he is quite excited about this gig! It takes place between 8pm - 2pm, on November 15th 2010, and tickets are now available for $20 through BrownPaperTickets.com, or $30 on the door.

Stufish, the world's top stage design company headed by the supremely talented Mark Fisher and his colleague, have long been associated with Pink Floyd and Roger Waters, along with many other top touring acts such as Genesis and The Rolling Stones. Fresh from their work on U2's incredible 360° "claw" stage, Mark has been working closely on the design and development of Roger's Wall tour.
The Stufish website has been updated with a fascinating new section, which includes a gallery looking at behind the scenes on the tour (with the stage equipment, rigging, and much more), and a further gallery with a thorough look at the first night of the tour in Toronto on September 15th. Needless to say you'll see every aspect of the show in minute detail, so don't look if you don't want any surprises revealed!
