Announced today: FC Internazionale Milano, together with Sony Music Italy, have collaborated with Pink Floyd with an initiative that combines music and football to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, while also shedding light to a wider audience of a lesser-known chapter in the band's history.
The project features a range of exclusive products available through Inter's website, including a very limited (just 400 of them for sale) anthem jacket, which will also be worn by players during the pre-match of this week's Inter vs. Cagliari game at the San Siro in Milan, Italy, a bundle with a t-shirt and exclusive blue vinyl of Wish You Were Here (which is limited to just 1908 copies, so be quick if you want one!), and what they are calling "the PFFC Collection - a capsule inspired by the football team founded by the band in the 1970s - which includes, among its highlights, a retro jersey that reinterprets, through a Nerazzurri lens, the shirt worn by Pink Floyd".
The initiative will be further amplified by a special activation at the stadium during Friday night's match. This will "transform the stadium into an immersive Pink Floyd-inspired experience".
For those unaware, at the start of the '70s, Pink Floyd would arrange football
matches during breaks in their busy touring schedule, usually against music journalists. The Pink Floyd Football Club (PFFC) was born; made up of David, Roger, Nick and Richard, alongside various friends and members of the crew.
The press release notes that "with the PFFC Collection, Inter brings the band back onto the pitch in a symbolic gesture by reinterpreting the PFFC name as Pink Floyd FC Internazionale Milano and bringing a story from the past into a
modern-day project that has the ability to unite generations, languages, and diverse communities. The iconic PFFC photo by Kim Gottlieb-Walker inspires the collection, highlighted by an exclusive retro jersey that reimagines '70s aesthetic through a modern lens, blending Pink Floyd's identity with Inter's identity.
"At the centre of
the shirt is the PFFC lettering, resembling the original shirt worn in the historic photograph, while the back displays the 50th anniversary logo of Wish You Were Here, especially adapted for the Club. The sleeves are embellished with the Inter logo and the iconic handshake symbol, one of the most legendary marks of Pink Floyd's imagery,
featured on the album cover. The same stylistic elements are also visible in other items in the collection, including scarves, tote bags, guitar picks, and drumsticks".
Luca Adornato, Brand & Marketing Director of FC Internazionale Milano, explained, "This collaboration fully represents our vision: to make Inter a brand that can form genuine connections with different worlds, creating products and experiences that, starting from football, allow us to connect with a broader audience. Music is at the
heart of our identity and, over the years, we have worked on a path that has strengthened our presence in this field. The collaboration with Pink Floyd, a band that has shaped the history of global music, marks a key milestone for us in this evolution."
The products are available from today on the official Inter online store and at Inter Stores Milano, Castello, and San Siro, with early access for "Interista" loyalty members from 11:00 CEST to
15:00 CEST for the Anthem Jacket. The bundle (available for preorder from today and on sale from April 30), guitar
picks, and drumsticks can also be purchased via the Sony Music Italy store, but for the whole range, you need Inter's store. The t-shirt and blue vinyl WYWH bundle seems to be selling very quickly so don't delay if you would like one of those - the items aren't available separately, just so you know, and are only available from Inter's store and Sony's Italian store. No other retailers elsewhere will have these items.
Finally, here's an interesting, retro-flavoured look at the new product range and the collaboration between Pink Floyd and Inter:
