Thursday, 01 April 2004

Last night (April 1st), David Gilmour appeared amongst a galaxy of stars, as part of the Jools Holland And Friends show for the Teenage Cancer Trust, at London's Royal Albert Hall. The Pink Floyd guitarist joined such luminaries as Jeff Beck, Ronnie Wood, soul legend Solomon Burke, Ruby Turner, Tom Jones, Chrissie Hynde, the Velvet Underground's John Cale, and many others, in a rousing three hour show, taking in forty songs along the way!

Longtime Pink Floyd cover artist and collaborator Storm Thorgerson, who was instrumental on the staging of a major exhibition of the band in Paris, and who, on the eve of the exhibition sadly suffered a stroke, has updated his website with his thoughts on Interstellar.

The updates, found within the "News Room" section of the "Anecdotes" part of StormThorgerson.com, talk about the recent Interstellar exhibition, which ran from October 2003 to the end of January 2004 (reviewed elsewhere on this site in detail).

Pink Floyd - a band that changed the world Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Saturday, 27 March 2004

Pink Floyd have been named as one of the bands that "changed the world", in a line-up just published by long running, respected music publication, Q Magazine.

Topping the list of the 50 most influential bands is The Sex Pistols, who "shook the world with their anti establishment views and riotous behaviour", and they were followed by the likes of The Beatles (who came second), Nirvana (third), The Beach Boys (fourth) and NWA (Niggaz With Attitude) who came in surprisingly in fifth place.

Pink Floyd did disappointingly, coming in at 40th, edging out the likes of Depeche Mode, New Order and Roxy Music, who came at the foot of the list. Despite incredible sales of albums such as Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd's relative anonymity with the public dented their chances at appearing higher in the list.

Repeat of BBC Dark Side Of The Moon documentary Print E-mail

Sunday, 21 March 2004

The BBC Radio 4 documentary on Dark Side Of The Moon, originally broadcast on September 16th 2003, is getting a rebroadcast on March 27th at 10:30am GMT.

The documentary, presented by political correspondent Matthew Parris, an unlikely commentator, was an interesting if short (30 minutes) look at the album, with interview segments from members of the band, Bob Geldof (eating humble pie over his original views on the album!), ex-Rolling Stone journo and celebrity chef Loyd Grossman, and others. Sadly, there were no new interviews with the band themselves, but the snippets that were used worked well in their context. A Tuesday lunchtime was a strange time to broadcast the show though - and the repeat on a Saturday morning is just as odd! As with all BBC shows, it can be heard via the BBC website.
