"Pink Floyd's London 1966-67" - did you win? Print E-mail
Written by Matt

This month saw the US release of the long-awaited DVD of "Pink Floyd - London 1966-67", the UK/European edition having been released in September, and a review of this can be found here on this site.

It definitely is a "must have", and thanks to the generosity of those nice people at Snapper Music, we had a great competition for you. The first picked name, below, has won a signed, framed print, DVD (with CD), and t-shirt. The four runners up will get a t-shirt and DVD/CD set. The large-format, signed print is one of only 20 that have been created of the cover art, and the one we are giving away has been professionally framed, and signed by director Peter Whitehead! A very nice prize indeed...

With the paperback and audiobook CD of Nick Mason's excellent book, "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd", hitting the shops this month, we had another great competition for you!

We gave you a chance to win one of five copies of the collectors edition audio CD set, which will be signed by Nick on 1st November!

Nick has been fully and enthusiastically involved throughout the production of the audio version of Inside Out. As well as enjoying recording his reading of the book, he has added a typically Floydian flourish to proceedings. As he says, ‘To fit the book on the CDs we had to lose a couple of jokes, so we’ve added a lot of funny noises instead!’

German Live 8 TV rebroadcast Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Wednesday, 26 October 2005

With a week and a half to go before the official Live 8 DVD is released, the timing for a rebroadcast of highlights of the concert on German TV seems particularly strange.

TV channel Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) is airing over 23 hours of the best bits of the Live 8 shows in London, Berlin, Rome, Paris, Tokyo and Philadelphia. The highlights are being shown after midnight on 28th and 29th October, and 4th and 5th November. Included of course, will be the headline-grabbing reunion of Roger Waters with Pink Floyd - we understand that they will be showing this complete.

RBB can be received via satellite in Europe, on the Astra 19 east analogue service, for those who want to remind themselves of the show before the DVD itself arrives. The DVD will feature the band's rehearsals and interviews with them, too, so the television broadcast will be interesting but not as good, in our opinion! Our thanks to Kevin O'Donoghue for the heads-up.

After our recent reports on Nick Mason's scuppered plans to continue his promotion of his wonderful book "Inside Out - A Personal History Of Pink Floyd" due to appendicitis, we're pleased to report all is back on track!

In his first public appearance since his operation, he travelled to Poland this week to appear in Warszawa (Warsaw) on the 25th, and Kraków on the 26th (yesterday). With a press conference in each city, followed by a book signing session in the large EMPiK stores in the cities, these were popular events with the locals.

Floyd's 1967 Top Gear session - rebroadcast Print E-mail

Tuesday, 25 October 2005

This week, BBC Radio 6 Music are broadcasting a series of John Peel specials, as part of their "Keepin' It Peel" focus. As part of this, on Monday (24th October) they broadcast John Peel's very first "Top Gear" show, from 11th October 1967, which features three Pink Floyd tracks in stunning quality.

The three tracks, performed by the Syd Barrett helmed line up, are Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun, Reaction In G, and Flaming. These tracks have been circulated heavily, unofficially, for many years, but have tended to be in incredibly ropey sound quality. The broadcast on Monday featured the tracks in superb quality.
