"See Emily Play" on Top Of The Pops - update Print E-mail

Syd Barrett and Roger Waters on Top Of The Pops, BBC 1967Further to the story we brought you back on November 21st about the discovery of the "holy grail" of early Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd television footage, the band's performances of "See Emily Play" on the BBC's Top Of The Pops weekly music programme [right], we have a couple of small updates for you.

First, a set of around fifteen (albeit small) stills from the band's performance have been included in the new issue of Mojo magazine (see earlier story) which give a flavour of what the footage has to offer. There's also a shot of the tape itself which is in abysmal condition, so it is miraculous that this one-inch, reel-to-reel tape, discovered in a private collection, has revealed such a gem.

Secondly, as we noted before, plans are now being drawn up to include the Top Of The Pops footage in a special screening event at the BFI Southbank in London. The Missing Believed Wiped event is due to take place on January 9th. Ticketing details aren't yet available, but will no doubt be extremely sought after!

Another US radio special on Pink Floyd The Wall coming up Print E-mail

RocklineAs a pre-Christmas treat, on December 23rd the syndicated US rock radio programme Rockline will be airing an "encore episode" featuring Pink Floyd in honour of The Wall's 30th Anniversary. Hosted by Bob Coburn, we understand the 90 minute episode is the show that they broadcast in 2006, which was taken from multiple Rockline archive shows featuring David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason and provides a fascinating glimpse into the actual recording of the album, the movie and the historic Berlin performance in front of well over 250,000 people.

For details of the various US radio stations that carry the Rockline broadcasts, visit RockLineRadio.com. Our thanks to BD regular Terrence Reardon for the info.

Outback Catalogue. Copyright StormStudios 2009More artwork for you, with the news that Storm Thorgerson has been busy creating again. He has taken another look at the "Back Catalogue" concept which he has been developing since EMI commissioned him to create an image to promote the Pink Floyd's albums. This time, he has been busy in South Africa, and his latest take on the idea [click thumbnail, right] - entitled "Outback Catalogue" - includes not just the Syd Barrett-esque "Pink Floyd - Tree of Half Life" but covers he created for Genesis (Lamb Lies Down), the Cranberries, and Mars Volta.

It is available to buy from Stormsight.co.uk as a fine art limited edition print, signed, titled and numbered by Storm himself. Should be another popular image amongst Storm's many enthusiastic fans worldwide.

Some of you will recall the impressive set of Pink Floyd tattoos that we recently featured on the site. Well, that has seemingly inspired others to share their own, very personal body-art with us (and the Floyd community too). We've had a few additional contributions now, and have today set up a special page devoted to Floyd tats! You can see it here (or have a wander through the gallery, where you'll see other art created by fans of the band). If YOU'VE got some interesting tattoos featuring the band and/or their artwork, we'd love to see them - please This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with details.
