Pink Floyd London 1966-67 vinyl and CD setMany of you will be aware of the excellent "Pink Floyd London 1966/1967" DVD, directed by Peter Whitehead, which features rare full length performances from the band. Filmed as part of his legendary "Tonight Let's All Make Love In London" film, the band are captured recording two full-length tracks (Interstellar Overdrive, and Nick's Boogie) at the Sound Techniques studio in London, October 1966, and are fascinating documents of those very early days before the band went "professional" and signed with EMI.

Our friends at Snapper Music have put together a special limited edition heavyweight vinyl set, specially packaged in a gatefold sleeve [click thumbnail, left], featuring the two tracks, and to celebrate its launch, gave us two copies of the set - along with the DVD of the performances - to give away to a couple of lucky Brain Damage visitors...

You can place your order for the vinyl set direct from the Snapper store, where you can also pick up the DVD (our review here). The lucky winners, however, of a vinyl set AND the DVD, have now been drawn and are: Robin Sadler, from Cheshire, UK, and Erkki Mervaala, from Tampere in Finland. Well done to you both!

Flaming Lips' cover of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the MoonToday (December 22nd, 2009) sees the iTunes release of the somewhat unexpectedly titled "The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing the Dark Side of the Moon" - yes, that is the complete and correct title, of the re-recording and reimagining of Pink Floyd's 1973 classic!

This labour of love recording is a collaboration between The Flaming Lips, Stardeath and White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins and Peaches, and at the moment is designated as a digital download only. For those who chose other download sites for their music, you'll have to wait until December 29th for your opportunity.

In the meantime, click the thumbnail for the suitably freaky cover art!

Two new Pink Floyd books on the horizon Print E-mail

With thoughts now turning to what 2010 will bring, publishers are clearly getting ready to keep the fans busy with a couple of new Pink Floyd titles announced.

Pink Floyd Illustrated Biography"Pink Floyd: Illustrated Biography (Classic Rare & Unseen)" by Gareth Thomas is a hardback from Transatlantic Press which is due to appear on June 1st, 2010. As yet we have little information on this, other than it is a large-format, 224-page book, including "a unique collection of 200 classic, rare and unseen photographs" between its covers. Picture books of the band always prove popular, so we know some of you will be placing your orders with Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, or Amazon France.

Pink Floyd comicAll five issues of the Rock 'N' Roll Comics series The Pink Floyd Experience have been out of print and in demand for over fifteen years. As showcased in Pink Floyd's own official box CD set Shine On, the Floyd comics chronicle the band's story. With art by Marvel and DC star Ken Landgraf (Wolverine, Hawkman, Nightwing & Flamebird), this 240-page collection, to be published May 29th, 2010, is said to also include updated material, bringing the saga up to 2010. Some liked the comics, others hated them - for the former, or those who are curious, you can pre-order them at Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, or Amazon France.

David Gilmour's website gets impressive new look Print E-mail

New David Gilmour websiteDavid Gilmour's official website has just launched its new look, and very impressive it is too. With a lot of Flash-based widgets used, it is a colourful, and active site to look at - with a nice in-concert laser effect sitting behind David and his signature black Strat. Click the thumbnail to the left for a closer look - or indeed pop over to www.DavidGilmour.com to experience it fully!

In terms of existing content, this is all still there, but will some upgraded methods of presentation (for example, in the picture section). As yet, his blog site hasn't been changed in line with the main site, although this was of course visually (and operationally) upgraded not so long ago.
