Wednesday, 02 September 2009

Guitar World - October 2009The current issue of US magazine Guitar World, cover date October 2009, includes a large feature on Pink Floyd's 1979 album The Wall. With the album celebrating its 30th anniversary, it's a good time to look back at the work, and their article includes input from David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason. We've not seen the article yet so cannot attest to how extensive it is.

The magazine is in North American magazine outlets now, and available worldwide from selected retailers as an import. Click the thumbnail to see the cover in greater detail. For mail order enquiries and further information on the magazine, go to www.guitarworld.com.

Wayne IshamMany Floyd fans will be familiar with the name Wayne Isham. The renowned music video director has produced promos for the likes of Madonna, Bon Jovi, and Metallica, when not working for Pink Floyd - he directed the 1988 concert movie Delicate Sound Of Thunder, and co-directed the 1989 Venice concert broadcast. He was also responsible for the band's One Slip and On The Turning Away promo videos.

Wayne is the subject of "Video Killed The Radio Star", a 30-minute documentary looking at his work which is airing on UK-based satellite channels Sky Arts 1 and Sky Arts 1 HD, later this month. You can catch it on both channels simultaneously on September 13th at 9pm, September 14th at 11am and also 3pm, and September 19th at midnight.

As a follow-up to our story of August 19th, we now bring you a new interview with Roger Waters about his involvement with the West Bank Wall, and the documentary itself - Walled Horizons - which is presented in two parts below.

In an interesting interview undertaken on Friday (August 28th), on the BBC's World Service radio station, Roger talks about why he writes the songs he does ("gloomy songs" included), explaining what motivates him. He talks about his involvement with the movement against the current wall, and how it related to the original concept for the 1979 album.

You can listen to the interview via the BBC.co.uk/WorldService website.
