A new Pink Floyd book has managed to sneak under the BD radar, and is due to be published next week - Monday, June 21st. "Pink Floyd: The Music and the Mystery" is described as "the ultimate illustrated discography of Pink Floyd, [including] seperate sections on the work of Roger Waters and Syd Barrett". It is written by Andy Mabbett, publisher and editor of The Amazing Pudding fanzine (which ran at the same time as Brain Damage fanzine back in the 1980s/early 1990s), and contributer to a couple of other books from Omnibus Press.
We currently have no other details of this 168 page book but of course we're trying to get some more information for you. If, however, you want to add this to your Pink Floyd bookshelf, advance orders, at up to 32% discount, are being taken at: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, or Amazon Germany.

Just published is the latest issue - number 16 - of the Pink Floyd fanzine "Heyou" run by our friends over at the Italian website of the same name.
The 52-page magazine in Italian and English includes plenty of news from the last six months or so, with a look at the US dates announced for Roger's Wall tour (obviously going to press before the European dates were revealed); a look at the Syd Barrett fund and the work done by the individuals behind it (including Symon Vegro, author of "All That You Touch"); the Floyd in 1969 and 1970; and a general news wrap-up.
More details can be found at www.heyou.it/fsubscrbd.htm, where you can get individual copies, and subscription enquiries (four issues costing 20 euros within Europe, and 30 euros outside Europe) should go to

Today's edition of The Times newspaper in the UK includes a nice cover feature with a new illustration by (Times cartoonist) Gerald Scarfe on the front of the "Playlist" supplement (click thumbnail, right). The feature includes an interview with Roger Waters on the forthcoming Wall tour.
"My fiancée [the actress Laurie Durning] sowed the seed and I started gnawing on it. But I didn't want to go out and whine about how miserable I was as a young man." Instead, as the Times notes, developing the antiwar subtext of the original work, The Wall becomes an allegory for today's world: "Nations are subject to history in the same way that an individual is, and that includes collective fear. To talk about the evil ones, as [George W.] Bush did, places certain countries and cultures outside a wall that defines national and ideological boundaries. So I've worked that into the meaning of the show."
His enthusiasm for the tour is clear: "I'm no longer as judgmental of myself or of others. As a consequence, I like being on stage. I mean, there are 20,000 people out there and they all think you're great! I like to make eye contact with the audience, to make loud rock'n'roll noises and see a crowd enjoy it."
On the other side of the Atlantic, Roger appears in the June 10th edition of Rolling Stone (again, click thumbnail). Finding him in a production studio in Manhattan, RS ask him about the staging of the new show, the new band, and also talks about the success of the tour.

First, an update for you on the planned sequel to the Syd Barrett festival which was to be held in London later this year: this has been delayed, but the organisers now have a sustainable plan for a much longer and more comprehensive exhibition, together with a series of evening talks and related music events in March 2011, in London.
Materials for the Syd exhibition are still sought, so any owners of Syd's artwork, please contact

, who is also after those with experience of the 1960s London scene who'd like to participate in evening events.
Rob Chapman's book "Syd Barrett: A Very Irregular Head" has been getting some good feedback from those who've already read it. We hope to bring our review to you soon, but in the meantime, pop over to www.SydBarrett.com where they have an interesting Q&A with him, along with a segment of the book which was removed prior to it going to press.
You'll recall that we recently reminded you about the special guided tours of Syd's Cambridge, run by personal friends of Barrett, in conjunction with Brain Damage. More details can be found here, but the reason for this reminder is to let you know that the tour on July 17th is now full. There are still some spaces left on September 11th, so email chief tour guide
