Written by Matt
Friday, 09 September 2011

This week, as our Facebook followers have already seen, a very short, and quite unusual video clip appeared on Youtube, with a distinctly Floydian feel. Today, a second one has followed, with no indication of what these are, and where (and when) they were filmed, but spurred on by this further clip appearing, we thought we'd mention them on here too! Should any others appear, we'll put them on our Facebook page...

Rolling Stone France issue 35Following on from our previous news item about various interviews, we've more for you today as the Why Pink Floyd coverage continues.

The US sydicated Bob and Tom radio show have today (September 7th) aired an interview with David Gilmour talking about the new Pink Floyd releases. They ran the same interview yesterday as well. You can hear the show in full, including the Gilmour segment, through this link, although you will have to sign up (and pay) to hear it, unfortunately. Our thanks to Nikhil for the info. UPDATE: You can hear it in full, free, here. Thanks to David Coleman for letting us know!

Staying with the radio, Redbeard's respected In The Studio, which is also sydicated across the US, has prepared a special for the Dark Side Of The Moon Immersion boxset coming out later this month, and the show - featuring interviews with Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Nick Mason - airs in the week of September 19th. It will also be available to hear (without the music) online on the show's site.

Finally, for our French friends, the new issue of Rolling Stone magazine (issue 35) published in that country features a very fetching colour cover of the band [see left], along with an article on them within the pages. It's available in stores and bookstalls across France now. Our thanks to Frederic Barres for letting us know.

Why Pink Floyd?Tying in with the huge upcoming Why Pink Floyd reissue programme, the media are ramping up their coverage of all things Floydian.

This weekend, some radio stations in the US have been airing a special show, called "Why Pink Floyd?" It's a 50 minute special that includes new interviews with Nick Mason (interviewed by Red Beard). It also includes several classic Floyd songs, two of which are previously unreleased tracks that will be on the upcoming Immersion edition of The Dark Side of the Moon (Roger's demo for "Money" and the November 1974 live performance of "Us & Them"). A US radio station in Connecticut are airing this tomorrow (Wednesday) evening at midnight EST. They stream live worldwide through this link. UPDATE: An edit (removing the music) of the interview can now be heard on-demand through www.InTheStudio.net.

In the UK, next Friday, September 16th, digital TV station BBC 4 will have a Pink Floyd night. There are three shows advertised: The Pink Floyd Story, then one hour of Floyd clips from 1967 to the present day, and the final hour presents the band "Live At Pompeii". Our thanks to Gary Hurley for the info on this. BBC 4 is broadcast from 7pm every evening on Freesat channel 107, Freeview channel 9, Sky Digital channel 116, Tiscali channel 20 and Virgin Media channel 107, as well as directly from the BBC Four website. Many BBC Four programmes are also available after transmission on BBC iPlayer.

FURTHER UPDATE: Tonight (September 7th) on BBC Radio 2, "Old Grey Whistle Test 40" which airs at 10pm UK time includes Bob Harris as he "speaks to film-maker Ian Eames about the film he created for a Pink Floyd song, which was screened on OGWT and led to a lengthy working collaboration between animator and band."

Roger Waters - Happy Birthday! Print E-mail

Roger WatersOur heartiest best wishes go to Roger Waters, who celebrates his 68th birthday today (Tuesday, September 6th).

Roger was born in Great Bookham, Surrey, in 1943, moving to Cambridge when he was two years old. It was there that he met, and became childhood friends with, a number of key people in the story of Pink Floyd. We - the Brain Damage team, and quite a number of our visitors who have asked us to pass on their best wishes, too - hope you have a great day, Roger. Many happy returns!

Of course, Roger has been extremely busy over the last year or two, having performed 120 Wall concerts in 2010/2011, with more planned (and some announced) for next year. He's also hard at work going through the recordings of the Athens Wall concerts with a view to the release of the show on DVD/Blu-ray in due course, which of course many of us are eagerly awaiting...

BBC Radio 2 announce Autumn schedule with Pink Floyd season Print E-mail

The music of Pink Floyd will be placed under the musical microscope on the UK's BBC Radio 2 this October with a season of exclusive programmes celebrating their legacy.

Days In The Life is a must listen for any Pink Floyd fan, featuring exclusive interviews with David Gilmour, Roger Waters and Nick Mason, alongside the last radio interview that the late Rick Wright ever gave. Produced by Radio 2's Mark Hagen, it tells their story from pre-Floyd days in the early Sixties right up to Nick and David's live appearance with Roger earlier this summer.

The award-winning documentary series The Record Producers explores the work of legendary record producers and returns to unlock the secrets of the music of Pink Floyd. Produced by record producer Steve Levine and Radio 2 presenter Richard Allinson of Magnum Opus, the mystery of that incredible Pink Floyd sound will be revealed and the creative relationships between the band members explored to discover just why those Pink Floyd recordings sound so good. Original multi-tracks and rare recordings from Meddle and Wish You Were Here, and one of the music world's most influential albums of all time, Dark Side Of The Moon, will be scrutinised and explained by David Gilmour and Nick Mason.

Johnnie Walker will also host a Sounds Of The 70s special with David Gilmour, which will lift the lid on the band's influences during this period and the story of their decade.

All broadcast dates and times are yet to be announced and as soon as we have this information, we will let you know.

UPDATE: The Record Producers is being broadcast on BBC Radio 2 on October 3rd 2011, at 10pm GMT, and is an hour long.
