Along with many around the world, our thoughts are with the family and
friends of Richard Wright today, on the third anniversary of his extremely sad
passing...
A founding member of the early Pink Floyd, his distinctive keyboard work
was a cornerstone of the band's music, yet his contribution was of
course so much greater than that, as a vocalist and songwriter,
responsible for many significant pieces of music throughout the band's
career.
A steady stream of emails are arriving here from fans who are thinking of Richard today, playing his music in tribute.

The new issue of the UK's Classic Rock Magazine (out today, September 14th, cover date October 2011) features a look back at the 1989 concert Pink Floyd held in the lagoon at Venice. Televised across the world, it featured an abridged set, performed on a floating stage. The whole event was, to use an understatement, interesting, with many stories flying around about the conditions in Venice with thousands upon thousands of fans packed in like sardines, rumours of the ancient buildings suffering, gondoliers protesting, and much more.
The three page article, which includes some nice pictures of the event, features fascinating commentary from the likes of David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Guy Pratt, Fran Tomasi (the promoter), the mayor of Venice at the time, Antonio Casellati, Neil Warnock (the band's agent) and Robbie Williams (tour director) all revealing how the show came together, and the pressures they were under during the event.
Elsewhere in the magazine, which boasts a guest editor of Alice Cooper, there are features on Jimi Hendrix, Guns'n'Roses, Hawkwind, and Led Zeppelin's manager, Peter Grant. Classic Rock is available across the UK, and individual issues can be purchased online for despatch worldwide via the retail arm of their publishers.

Last Friday we told you about some interesting, Pink Floyd influenced video clips which had emerged.
At the time, there was no indication where they'd come from, who'd done them, and for what purpose. On our Facebook page there was some speculation as to whether they were official, or fan-made, and also if they were related to Roger's touring. A further five have now appeared, taking the total (so far?) to seven. It's now clear that they are indeed official, and if you take a look at some of the clips (below) you'll see there's some interesting and intriguing messaging at the end of at least one of them!

Published this weekend, the new issue (number 393, October 2011) of the UK's Record Collector Magazine includes an interesting chat with Nick Mason concerning the upcoming Pink Floyd reissue campaign which kicks off later this month.
In the interview, Nick talks about the various early recordings they have, and he expresses his interest in doing an Immersion edition of both Piper and Saucerful. Questions inevitably turn to the future, and Nick reveals he'd like to work in Ibiza, expressing his admiration for the "DJs whoc work with live music and play themselves. I love all that technology and how dedicated they are...". The magazine is in UK stores now, will be available worldwide in selected outlets shortly as an import, and can be bought online here.
Also in the UK last week, the new issue (October 2011) of Uncut Magazine appeared, which also features Nick Mason, in an eleven-page special. In it, Nick explains the rationale behind the reissue campaign. Uncut give a walk-through of the DSOTM "work-in-progress" mix coming with the Immersion edition, and - for the fans of early Floyd - some extremely interesting comments come from Nick. He expresses his wish for a Piper/Saucerful Immersion, that he hopes would include some great early rarities including a recording he has of them playing 'Walk With Me Sydney' and 'Double O-Bo'. Andy Jackson adds "there is potentially the material to make an album of unreleased Barrett-era stuff".
The magazine is in UK stores now, and will be available in selected countries worldwide as an import. More info at Uncut.co.uk.

The SuperDeluxeEdition website have been the first of a few sites to post details obtained from EMI of the demo tracks to be included on the Immersion edition of Pink Floyd's The Wall, which is being released in February 2012.
The box set runs to seven discs, including the original album along with the live recording, Is There Anybody Out There, both remastered, along with a DVD containing various items of interest. Up until now, details of the two final discs, holding album demos, have been sketchy at best, but as you'll see below, they contain over 60 demo tracks which will surely make this a hugely attractive proposition to Wall fans...
