London's Idea Generation Gallery are hosting BIG & SMALL, a brand new exhibition of the album cover art of Storm Thorgerson, later this month. Opening to the public on October 21st, and running until November 13th, Big & Small illustrates the vast diversity of format now facing music designers, from billboards to digital downloads and postage stamps. In particular, the show features enormous high quality fine art prints at 5-foot square that are by far the biggest they have ever attempted, of album covers from Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Muse, The Mars Volta et al derived from original art and individually supervised.
The exhibition will also display more manageable sized prints of recent StormStudios work including Pendulum, The Wombats, Younger Brother alongside more familiar works from Black Sabbath, Peter Gabriel, Steve Miller, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
Idea Generation were the hosts of the excellent Syd Barrett: Art and Letters exhibition which took place in March/April this year. The presentation of that exhibition was a great showcase of Syd's artistic endeavours, and we're expecting great things from Big & Small. We'll be reporting back from the launch evening, so will reveal more then. The new exhibition includes interactive installations that allow members of the public to make and take their own versions of certain album covers. Live events will also take place throughout the exhibition making this a truly immersive experience.
The Idea Generation Gallery is at 11 Chance Street, London E2 7JB, and more information can be found at their website: gallery.ideageneration.co.uk.

The 2011 remasters of Pink Floyd's albums have dominated the album charts worldwide, with key releases making the biggest impact. In the UK, for example, the official album charts have The Dark Side Of The Moon as a re-entry at number 11 (celebrating 557 weeks on the UK chart), Wish You Were Here at number 43, The Wall at number 44, Animals at 88, and Meddle at 99.
In the US, six Pink Floyd albums re-enter Billboard's Top 200. TDSOTM is at number 12, The Wall at number 40, Wish You Were Here at 71, Animals at 83, Meddle at 174 and the Discovery Box Set has a separate entry at number 175. The Billboard Top Catalog chart has Dark Side at number 1 (for the first time since the 2003 Hybrid SACD peaked there), The Wall at 5, Wish You Were Here at 6 and Animals at 7. Our thanks to Terrence Reardon for his help with this information.

The official Gerald Scarfe website has just had a major overhaul. For a long time, the site has been an interesting destination, with information on Gerald - best known by Pink Floyd fans for his wonderful work on The Wall, but of course he started his association some years earlier providing a wonderful caricature of the band for the 1974 tour programme (comic).
The new website retains the biographical detail on Gerald's life and career, and news of recent and upcoming events and appearances, but has a dramatically expanded retail area. This part is worth a visit alone - the Pink Floyd section now includes a number of images which have not been revealed before, and these are available to purchase as high quality, signed limited editions direct from Gerald. So, not cheap, but should look stunning on your walls, and the range of images are fascinating to browse through, too. His other work (principally political material) is also well worth spending some time studying.
The website can be found at (unsurprisingly) www.GeraldScarfe.com.

As many of you are already aware, Friday night is Pink Floyd Night on the UK's BBC6 Music radio station this week, with a whole host of unmissable programmes scheduled. Included in this is the expanded version of "The Record Producers: Pink Floyd" at 9pm. For those who heard the show on Monday evening on BBC Radio 2, this will be an essential to hear even more of the exclusive, never before heard, and truly fascinating breakdowns of some of their biggest songs into each track as originally laid down in the studio.
Kicking off the evening though is "Now Playing @6Music" which airs between 7pm-9pm. This show aims to build "the ultimate Pink Floyd playlist" and the producer has been in touch with us as they want YOUR help in this! They want as many Brain Damage visitors as possible to help build this ultimate playlist based around everything Pink Floyd, including the band's own material, from rarities and album tracks to their finest moments, solo work, acts they've influenced, bands related to their early Joe Boyd-produced work, and bands with amazing live shows – something pioneered by Floyd.
