The latest edition of the UK's Q magazine (cover date: July 2004) features their "50 best British albums ever" chart. Only one Pink Floyd album makes the top 50, and, unsurprisingly, it is Dark Side of the Moon, which hit number 14. Describing the album as "[Pink Floyd's] hifi-expanding amble through the national psyche", they talk of Roger Waters, who "penned elegantly neurotic lyrics about class, materialism and madness, while the band pared down its prog to manageable four minute tunes." They also comment that it was "America that really sat up and took notice, particularly of the anti-materialist Money, which, ironically, made Pink Floyd vulgarly rich".

Etienne Roda-Gil, renowned French lyricist, who wrote the libretto for Roger Waters forthcoming opera, Ca Ira, sadly passed away in Paris, France, aged 62, last weekend following a stroke.

It has now been announced that the new Alan Parsons album, "A Valid Path", will be released in August 2004 in the US (by 5.1 Entertainment), in Europe (by Eagle Rock), and in Japan (label to be confirmed). Of principal interest to visitors to this site is the fact that Pink Floyd front man David Gilmour guests on guitar.

A BBC recording of Pink Floyd, performing "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" in 1968, is to be rebroadcast on June 5th to launch the BBC4 season "Summer In The Sixties" (mentioned earlier on these news pages).
