A quick reminder for you: the British Music Experience (BME) has a treat in store for music fans and lovers of rock and pop iconography. This Thursday (April 7th), the internationally renowned graphic designers Roger Dean and Storm Thorgerson come together to discuss their careers and the work which has shaped the visual identity of bands such Pink Floyd, Yes, and Asia. For one night only, these two giants of album cover art are coming together to talk about their work, their lives with rock's aristocracy, and the stories behind the iconic sleeves that broke the mould and revolutionized the model for future album covers, as well as inspiring successive generations of graphic designers and music fans. Should be a fascinating event...one not to be missed!
The BME is a permanent, high-tech, interactive music exhibition which has opened within the world's most popular music venue, The O2 in London. Thursday's discussion is part of a series of intimate events running until April 2011 exploring the iconic imagery of rock and pop music from the perspective of the artists who created it. Guests will have a rare opportunity to listen to and question the photographers and graphic designers who have shaped the visual landscape of music.
Tickets for the event are £8.50, and are still available via the British Music Experience website. The event will take place from 7.30pm to 9pm; the museum will be open exclusively for attendees prior to the event. Entry is included in the ticket price (usual entry price is £10).

As our Facebook followers will have already seen, Roger Waters was recently interviewed on BBC Persian.
The two part interview, which you can see in full below, is a fascinating look at Roger's views and ideology. He talks about the power of the internet in giving the masses a voice, amongst other things... Obviously, as before, some of you might not agree with all his comments, but irrespective of that, it makes for interesting viewing. Be warned though, there are a few shots from the current live tour amongst the footage shown.

The weekend edition of the UK's Financial Times has Roger Waters as the latest guest in their Lunch with the FT column. Over a plate of gravadlax, Roger talks about the background to The Wall, and the current tour of the album. Clearly relaxed, Roger talks about holidays, his early drug experiments, and his thoughts on his career pre- and post- the split from David, Nick and Richard.
He noted that "Nick and I have become close friends again, which is great. He was always my friend in Pink Floyd. So the fact we fell apart and lost contact for many years was a shame." Talking of David, he mentions the upcoming appearance on Comfortably Numb and says in a measured way: "Yeah. So he says. That'll be great. I look forward to that."
Check out the full article at FT.com. Our thanks to Paul Dawson and Andy Jackson for the info.

Last year, a number of Brain Damage visitors took part in a pair of guided walks of Syd Barrett's Cambridge, run by I-SpySydInCambridge in conjunction with Brain Damage. The walks, tours of the city that took in many of the more significant sites which were connected to the life and times of Syd, and the various bands which lead to Pink Floyd,
provided fascinating and illuminating looks at those early days.
The hosts of the tour - personal friends of Syd, who grew up with him - shared their own memories of school days and beyond with Syd, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, and other Pink Floyd illumni who lived and worked in Cambridge. They partnered with us for those two very special tours, and due to the success and enjoyment experienced on the walks, decided to run THREE special tours of Syd's Cambridge with us this year, and with available places being snapped up, we thought it a good time to remind those who haven't yet booked their spots, before they are all gone!
The dates for 2011 are: June 18th, July 16th, and September 10th - all Saturdays. As with the 2010 tours, some special guests are again being lined up. Should all be great days and not to be missed!
