Many of you will be aware of "The Black Strat: A History Of David Gilmour's Black Fender Stratocaster", the superb book written by Phil Taylor, David's long-term guitar technician, studio manager, production director and much more [review here]. It takes a careful and detailed look at one of rock's most iconic instruments, very ably written by the only man to know Pink Floyd's equipment better than the band. Rather than a dry, technical manual, suited only to those who already know guitars inside and out, it is a rewarding and accessible book that Pink Floyd fans the world over will thoroughly enjoy, packed with truly rare pictures that you won't have seen before.
Now expanded to 208 pages, a fully revised edition is coming out on September 15th (North America) and October 1st (UK and Europe). It contains new information as well as many more unpublished photographs, recently come to light, that further chart the Black Strat's illustrious history. Amending and elaborating on the previous edition, it also continues the story where the last one left off with David's recent live appearances, information, and photographs – including David testing the Fender Black Strat replica models; performances with David Bowie, Jeff Beck, and others; and much more. View five sample pages here.
You can pre-order the book now through Amazon UK, Amazon.com, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany and Amazon France. Purchasing things after entering Amazon through our links really helps with site running costs, and we really appreciate it!

The September 2010 issue of Mojo, in UK stores now, features a short article about the Hoping Foundation gig featuring David Gilmour and Roger Waters held at Kiddington Hall in Oxfordshire the other weekend, accompanied by a fabulous photo of David and Roger. An additional photograph shows Roger and David with fellow charity performer Nick Cave.
Also in the magazine of interest to Floyd fans is a small piece about the upcoming large format book about Syd Barrett, described as the "definitive visual companion". This issue's main feature is an exhaustive interview with Robert Plant in which he discusses Led Zeppelin, Alison Krauss and his revival of the Band of Joy. Elsewhere, Phil Collins talks to Mark Blake about his new album of Motown covers and the possibility of another Genesis reunion.

In the new issue of Classic Rock Presents Prog Rock, a regular special issue from the monthly Classic Rock publishers, is an interview with Roger Waters [click thumbnail, right] about the forthcoming Wall concerts.
Roger ponders the message that The Wall could bring to audiences. "It may be that this piece can provide a talking point or rallying cry. With information technology, we get the chance now to understand each other's predicaments across international and idealogical borders and I think it's an opportunity that we haven't had before."
In the article, they note that "Waters intimates [that the original Wall concerts] are soon to be released on DVD", and has him pondering future plans: "I can't see myself doing this when I'm 80. Although that's only 14 years away. I'm 66 years old now and this is a big undertaking. I wouldn't say this is my farewell tour, but I do have to wonder what else I might do. I shall certainly go on working but whether I'll do any more big tours, I don't know."
You can read the full article in the magazine, which is in selected UK stores now, and worldwide as an import. More information at www.ClassicRockMagazine.com. Our thanks to Kevan Porter for helping with this story...
