Another Brick kids focus of planned movie Print E-mail
Written by Matt
Sunday, 28 November 2010

Another Brick in the Wall singleNo doubt encouraged with the current focus on The Wall, Andy Harries, producer of The Queen and The Damned United, is planning a movie based around the Pink Floyd track Another Brick In the Wall.

Rather than a remake of Sir Alan Parker's film, it's going to tell the story of the kids from the local school who performed on the track, along with their music teacher, Alun Renshaw. In October 2007, the BBC broadcast a documentary, "The Brick in the Wall Kids", which looked at their experiences, bringing the story up to date, reuniting some of them along with Renshaw.

Harries describes the proposed movie as "Dead Poets Society meets School of Rock." First-time writer Steve Thompson is writing the script for Left Bank and BBC Films, although Harries admits he hasn't got the rights to the song yet.

Our thanks to Stephen Humphries for the info.

Peter Sleazy ChristophersonIt is with sadness that we bring you the news that Peter Martin Christopherson, aka Sleazy, passed away on November 24th, 2010, aged 55, which has stunned the music world. He became a member of the Hipgnosis design team in 1974, first as a junior assistant, then later as a joint partner.

During his time with Hipgnosis, he worked on various Pink Floyd projects such as A Nice Pair, Wish You Were Here, and Animals.

When Hipgnosis folded in 1983, he started his own video production company. His musical side was evidenced by being one of the original members of Throbbing Gristle, a founding member of Psychic TV, and formed Coil which lasted some 23 years.

Our condolences to his family and friends.

Snowy White - technical profile and interview Print E-mail

Premier GuitarThe new issue of Premier Guitar, an online and freely accessible digital magazine, which every month allows you to read, zoom, print, share and even safely download the current, as well as archived, editions to your computer, has an article of interest to Pink Floyd fans.

They interview Snowy White at length, with an edge on the technical side of his working life. Pink Floyd first recruited Snowy White and his '57 goldtop Les Paul to back them on the road in 1977 on the Animals tour. Thirty-three years later, vocalist/bassist Roger Waters is still relying on the bluesman and his handful of Boss and Line 6 pedals to pull off an epic presentation of "The Wall."

Read the article in full here. Our thanks to Nino Gatti and Cecil Ligtenberg for letting us know about this article.

BBC Radio 6 broadcasting 1970 Pink Floyd session Print E-mail

Thursday, 25 November 2010

Pink Floyd 1970On December 1st, 2010, BBC Radio 6 Music in the UK will be airing their regular "Live Music Hour". Despite the terrible scheduling which means it broadcasts between 4-5am, the show does feature Pink Floyd recorded in concert at the BBC's Paris Studios in London in 1970, alongside BBC session tracks from The Only Ones, recorded in 1980, and The Cardiacs recorded in 1987.

Recorded on July 16th, 1970, the Floyd were accompanied by the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the John Aldiss Choir, who were conducted by John Aldiss himself. The tracks performed, which were broadcast at that time, were The Embryo, Fat Old Sun, Green Is The Colour, Careful With That Axe, Eugene, If, and Atom Heart Mother. Obviously, we don't know which of these BBC Radio 6 will air next week.

BBC Radio 6 can be heard within the UK, and in many parts of Europe, via DAB digital radio, digital cable/satellite TV, and online. You'll also be able to listen to the show once aired via this link to the BBC's iPlayer service. Our thanks to David Haddock for the info on this broadcast.
