Large Roger Waters feature in Classic Rock Magazine Print E-mail
Written by Matt

Classic Rock Magazine, June 2011Hitting UK stores this weekend was the new issue (cover date June 2011) of the UK's Classic Rock Magazine, which has a major, ten-page focus on Roger Waters and his current The Wall Live tour, arriving on British shores next week.

Hard to miss, the magazine has a nice portrait of Roger on the cover, looking out through the outer slip cover that features a broken brick surround. Inside, the article takes a fascinating look at the background and mechanics of the tour.

The highlight though is the exclusive interview with Roger, where he tells us that "I've never been interested in making things just to entertain people. I want them to be moved and emotionally engaged. Otherwise I might just as well be working on a game show". He also talks about the amount (and value) of the psychotherapy he has been through over the years, new solo material, Syd Barrett, the rigours of touring, and how he copes with it, and his relationship with David Gilmour and Nick Mason.

Our thanks to Nino Gatti for the head's-up on this publication, which is available now in most good stores across the UK, and available shortly worldwide in selected outlets as an import.

Roger Waters - The Album Collection
Roger Waters - The Album Collection

Back on March 16th, we told you that, to coincide with the European leg of The Wall Live tour, comes the release of "Roger Waters - The Album Collection". A limited edition (available during the tour) 8-disc box set, with a lift-off lid, it is a collection of his studio and live albums housed in mini-LP replica wallets, and sitting alongside a 16-page booklet. Click the thumbnails to the right to see them in more detail.

Originally scheduled to be released on April 4th, Sony have this afternoon confirmed that the set now has a revised release date of May 30th.

The collection (released by Sony Music) consists of Pros & Cons, Radio KAOS, Amused To Death, In The Flesh Live (2CD & 1DVD), and Ca Ira (2CD). So, there is NO new music included, but for those who are lacking Roger's solo work, it is priced very reasonably so a good opportunity for those who want to bolster their collection.

You can pre-order the set now through Amazon UK (who are cheapest at around £12.50 off the recommended price), Amazon France, Amazon Germany, Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. You can also order it from Play.com and HMV.com (who are currently the cheapest non-Amazon retailer for this, with £10 off the recommended price).

Also re-released (on the same date, May 30th) is the compilation album Flickering Flame, which features tracks not found elsewhere, including the title track itself, along with songs such as Each Small Candle, Knocking On Heaven's Door, and Lost Boys Calling. You can get it through Amazon UK, Amazon France, Amazon Germany, Amazon.com and Amazon.ca. You can also get it from HMV.com, Play.com, and other normal retailers.

Roger Waters in Revolver MagazineAn interesting interview with Roger Waters features in the April Issue of the Dutch magazine Revolver's Lust For Life (issue 9).

BD regular Nick Spekkels (who kindly supplied the cover scan to the left) tells us that "the interview was one I've read a hundred times already in the last couple of years, because always the same questions are asked, but still always nice to add another one to the collection ;)". He said that the cover text in Dutch quotes Roger as saying "I always want to be in Control".

Other interesting quotes in the article include "If I wanted to do easy entertainment I could have become a quizmaster instead", and "The Wall was actually one big session at a psychiatrist".

Back issue information and enquiries can be found at www.lustforlifemagazine.nl.
