Today, June 3rd, sees the beginning of the reintroduction of the band's catalogue on vinyl on the newly named Pink Floyd Records, for the first time in over two decades. In stores today are the first four albums - 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn', 'A Saucerful of Secrets', the 'More' soundtrack, and the 2LP, half-studio, half-live 'Ummagumma'.
Special care has been taken to replicate the original packaging, with a removable sticker placed on the cover giving details of the nature of the release. Ummagumma has - as expected - a gatefold cover for the two records.
The first batch of releases, mastered by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman have been pressed on 180gram vinyl for optimum sound quality. Pink Floyd Records releases will be manufactured and distributed by Warner Music for the UK and Europe and by Sony Music for North America and the rest of the world.
The rest of the vinyl catalogue will follow throughout the year, with release dates being announced at regular intervals. Naturally, as we get further release dates we will let you know.
As a side note, there have been sightings of The Division Bell on this new label in a few European countries, although officially it has not yet been released. We presume an early batch was mistakenly released to selected channels; we are expecting the proper release of this to be much later in the year.
We know there are many vinyl fans out there reading this, and we're sure these will be very popular releases. If you've not already bought yours, here are the ordering links - using these will give a small but vital contribution to the running costs of Brain Damage, without costing you a penny/cent extra, and we really appreciate it!
We'd love to hear from those who have either picked up theirs from a store, or received from their postman. What are your thoughts on these new releases? How do they sound? Contact us at our normal address of

Just announced: Roger Waters will be performing at the Foro Sol in Mexico City on September 28th, a week and a half before the first of two appearances at the Desert Trip festival in Indio, California, USA.
Making his return to Mexico four years after his previous visit, the concert poster/advert clearly hints at a much wider repertoire of material. The neonesque icons on the advert are (in order) for The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall, and the promoter's website suggests songs from all these will be performed. Obviously, material from The Wall is a given, but it is looking like a 'greatest hits' set, more akin to his pre-2010 tours. We will find out for sure in almost four months!
There is a Banamex Exclusive Cardmember presale which takes place on June 7th and 8th. The general sale of tickets starts on June 9th through via Ticketmaster.com.mx, by phone at 53-25-9000 as well as at the Foro Sol box office. For more information on the concert - including a ticket price breakdown (from $300 to $3500) can be found at ocesa.com.mx/evento/roger-waters.

Our very best wishes go to Gerald Scarfe today as he celebrates the momentous occasion of his 80th birthday. Gerald, of course, is a graphic artist with a long history with the Floyd, from the 1974 tour programme caricature, through to his most famous work on The Wall, and beyond that, working with Roger Waters on his Pros and Cons project. Many happy returns to Gerald on this very special day from all of us here at Brain Damage.
For those who haven't seen it, Gerald's superb "The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall" is the authorized, definitive book about the project and includes new commentaries from the surviving members of Pink Floyd: Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, together with the director of the film, Sir Alan Parker. Roger Waters has written the foreword. The album imagery, stage performances and film were created in close collaboration
with Gerald Scarfe, and his massive archive includes original storyboards, animation cells, concept drawings, models and other three-dimensional material together with photographs of the creation and staging of the live performances and the filming of The Wall. It even covers the 2010-2013 tour. Our review and full ordering details can be found here.
The accompanying photo of Gerald Scarfe and Roger Waters in Scarfe's studio, shows them going through material for the book [click the thumbnail to view it in more detail]. It's a lovely, personal look at work on the book, and was taken by Jane Scarfe (Asher), and was provided to Brain Damage as an online exclusive.
Finally, in case you've not seen these yet, or want to see them again, here's a trio of exclusive video interviews done for Brain Damage by Gerald, talking about The Wall...

Yesterday, David Gilmour and Polly Samson appeared at the Hay on Wye Literature Festival to discuss their songwriting partnership, and the writing process between lyricist and musician.
For those who missed the event, the BBC website has today posted the entire session to view. Restrictions may apply in certain countries, but hopefully most of you at least will be able to watch the following:

The UK's Royal Mail today reveal images of a set of 10 stamps that will be issued to mark the time since Pink Floyd turned professional (at the start of 1967) and became the 'house band' of the London Underground movement of music and arts. The stamps are available to pre-order from today, May 26th at www.royalmail.com/pinkfloyd and to purchase from 8,000 Post Offices across the UK from July 7th, the official "on sale" date.
Six stamps feature iconic album covers: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn; Atom Heart Mother; The Dark Side of the Moon; Wish You Were Here; Animals and The Endless River. In 2014, The Division Bell was issued by the Royal Mail in a similar edition, but in the midst of a range of covers by different artists.
A further four stamps within a miniature sheet celebrate the live performances of the band. Arguably the most visually literate band of all time, as well as being one of the most successful, their live appearances were renowned. They were among the first groups to make extensive use of light shows and projection of films for their appearances, increasing in ambition over the decades.
The four images convey the experience of these live performances, from the appearances at the influential UFO Club, London in 1966 where they stunned audiences with their revolutionary, psychedelic light show; to the extremely ambitious staging for albums such as The Wall and the Division Bell tours.
The Royal Mail website are offering a variety of different editions, and special presentation items, such as First Day Covers, framed prints, and more - all destined to be very collectable items. Place your orders now through www.royalmail.com/pinkfloyd.
