Mono 180g vinyl remaster for Record Store Day: Pink Floyd's A Saucerful Of Secrets Print E-mail

Pink Floyd: A Saucerful Of Secrets 180g vinyl mono remaster for Record Store Day 2019

To celebrate Record Store Day 2019 (Saturday 13 April), Pink Floyd are re-releasing their second album, A Saucerful Of Secrets on vinyl. Remastered by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman from the original 1968 analogue mono mix, the release is the latest from Pink Floyd Records, which has supported Record Store Day (RSD) since the label's launch in June 2016.

The limited-edition Record Store Day release is on premium 12" 180 gram black vinyl, with a black poly-lined inner sleeve, and a faithful reproduction of the original sleeve, including the Columbia logo, under which imprint (via EMI) the early Pink Floyd released in the UK. The Columbia logo has been used by kind permission of owners Sony Music Entertainment.

Originally released in June 1968, A Saucerful Of Secrets represents a change in line-up and direction. Co-founder and original songwriter Syd Barrett contributed only one song to the album and his live appearances became more erratic. So unreliable were Syd's live appearances that fellow founder members, Roger Waters, Rick Wright and Nick Mason decided to draft in David Gilmour, a friend of Syd's, also from Cambridge.

The album reflects this transition, containing a mixture of material, from the almost music hall Corporal Clegg through Rick's dreamlike and melodic See Saw and Remember A Day to the title track – an 11-minute, four part instrumental excursion that both harked back to their UFO freakouts and looked forward to the longer, more anthemic instrumental sequences that were to become one of their signature elements.

This mono edition of A Saucerful Of Secrets follows the popular RSD release of The Piper At The Gates of Dawn in mono in 2018, and is released via RSD participating stores on 13th April 2019. A reminder that it will ONLY be these stores participating; the stores themselves can't sell it online - the record will become available for customers coming through the door of the store from the morning of the 13th (and not before), in limited quantities - first come, first served, and only one copy per customer. After RSD, if copies remain, they may put them for sale online (and of course, there'll also be copies on eBay inevitably...)

The full list of RSD releases for 2019 is revealed at 6pm GMT today.

Published on May 10th, 2019, is a new, limited edition book from Wymer Publishing in the UK, called "Pink Floyd - Captured Through Time".

Captured Through Time is a photographic celebration of the band that takes you on a journey from the psychedelic, avant-garde sixties to the present day including off stage shots of all band members.

The publishers note that many of the photos have never been published in print before, including a sequence of shots from the Animals tour in 1977 that have only just been developed from the original negatives and digitally restored for this publication.

In total, over 100 glorious images of Floyd both on and off stage through the decades are included in this large format hardback book. Housed in a bespoke, custom-made, buckram presentation box with holographic block foil, it also includes 3 prints, ideal for framing and is strictly limited to 500 worldwide.

Customers who pre-order the book by March 25th can have their names printed in the book on a dedicated fan page.

We will bring you more about this book in due course, including a review, but in the meantime, you can order it directly from the publishers at WymerUK.co.uk. The book will not be available to purchase elsewhere, so this will be the only place you'll be able to get a copy.

Shown here is the cover of the book, along with some examples of pictures from within its pages. Click the thumbnails to see the images in greater detail. The pictures show, in clockwise order: the cover, the band in 1970 on stage, Roger Waters in 1977 during the Floyd's In The Flesh tour, and Richard Wright from 1972.

Two-part Mojo Magazine Pink Floyd special - part one out now Print E-mail

MOJO Magazine Pink Floyd specials - issue 1 and 2The first part - known as Edition 1 - of MOJO magazine's two-part Pink Floyd special collectors' edition is on sale now in UK stores. Housed in a gatefold card sleeve, with a mirrored prism on the front, and Atom Heart Mother's Lulubelle III pictured on the inside when opened up, the magazine covers the early period in the band's history: 1965-1973.

The editor, Mark Blake (he of the excellent Pigs Might Fly biography of the band) has put together the pair of 132 page magazines in part to tie in with the upcoming tour of Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets that begins on March 12th in Vancouver. The publications pull together interviews and articles printed over the many years of MOJO magazine, and accompany them with many rare and previously unseen images of the band, to help trace the journey from the band's first steps, through to The Dark Side Of The Moon.

There were certainly a healthy number of pictures which I'd not seen before, and refreshingly for a special publication such as this, there is no advertising within its pages to artificially inflate the page count. Both parts should be worthwhile purchases for Floyd fans, providing plenty to read, and lots of visual entertainment too.

The second part, also known as Edition 2, will be available in UK stores from April 4th, and covers the period of 1974 to the present day. As you'll see from the image here, the cover of the second part has the band lurking behind a hole in the Wall...

Edition 1 is in UK stores now, and will be available in selected locations worldwide as an import, in due course. Alternatively, you can buy it online (again, worldwide) through these links at the publishers:

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2019 tourSome hopefully excellent news for our friends in Europe - Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets have added another 8 shows to their summer tour this year, including five concerts in Italy, plus Malta, France, and The Netherlands. These are in addition to the other European shows, already announced, in Germany, Switzerland and France.

Tickets for these new shows go on sale on Monday, February 11th, at 10am CET, with the exception of the Lyon concert which is March 15th, at 3pm CET, and the addition of these dates means the July 2019 schedule now looks like this:

Some great venues there - historic, picturesque, and should be very memorable shows!

As normal, we have been busy setting up a dedicated page for each of these three concerts which, with your assistance, will have all sorts of useful information, pictures, reviews and more. The pages can be found in the Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2019 Tour Zone.

Pink Floyd on Forty-Five book (1st edition)

Just over 10 years ago, at the end of 2008, Charles Beterams published the excellent book "Pink Floyd On Forty-Five" which detailed all the then-known Pink Floyd 7inch singles in the world.

Enlisting the help of other major PF singles collectors, such as BD's friend Hervé Denoyelle, this incredible book was the result of their relentless hard work, their research, and the many years some of them have spent in dusty record shops in far-flung corners of the globe. In the book are entries from some unexpected countries, as well as extensive discographies of 7inch singles from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the USA.

The most visually interesting items tend to be concentrated in Japan and also around Northern Europe - Belgium, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany and France, with the dramatically varied picture sleeves the different countries offered. The original book is full of high quality, well-printed images (well over 1,200 of them!) on glossy paper, showing two singles per page (including the single's cover, if appropriate, and both sides of the single/both labels).

However... since then not only have we seen some interesting new releases such as the 1965: Their First Recordings double pack 7inch, but also quite a number of previously 'lost' or 'unknown' old, original releases have been discovered. All the new entries - nearing 75 so far - will be included in a second edition of this definite guide, to be published in due course.

Here's where YOU can possibly help: Charles is looking for additional information on any singles that are not in the first book, which he can include in the new edition, scheduled for Springtime. If you have any Floyd group or solo singles that you think might be slightly unusual (particularly if you have the first edition of the book, and know that the item(s) in question isn't in it), please send details to him at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
