Floyd's 1967 Top Gear session - rebroadcast Print E-mail

This week, BBC Radio 6 Music are broadcasting a series of John Peel specials, as part of their "Keepin' It Peel" focus. As part of this, on Monday (24th October) they broadcast John Peel's very first "Top Gear" show, from 11th October 1967, which features three Pink Floyd tracks in stunning quality.

The three tracks, performed by the Syd Barrett helmed line up, are Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun, Reaction In G, and Flaming. These tracks have been circulated heavily, unofficially, for many years, but have tended to be in incredibly ropey sound quality. The broadcast on Monday featured the tracks in superb quality.

Guy Pratt spills some Floyd beans! Print E-mail

A dark, wet and windy Monday evening in London this week saw the first West End appearance of Guy Pratt, in his one-man show, "My Bass And Other Animals".

The show looks at his long career in music, playing with such luminaries as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Pink Floyd, and comes after a successful run of dates as part of the Edinburgh Festival. Whilst he was up in Scotland, we had the opportunity to interview Guy, who obviously has many interesting tales to tell - and this week's show gave a great taster of these...

Live 8 DVD - Geldof podcast available Print E-mail

With just eleven days left until the arrival of the Live 8 DVD, the official website for the release has made the first half of an exclusive interview with Sir Bob Geldof, available as a podcast or download.

Sir Bob recently spoke to the Live 8 DVD team about the joys and struggles of putting together such an amazing, and massive live music event. As the architect of Live 8, and its chief whip, Sir Bob talks us through the highs and the lows, the success and the failure, the emotional and physical effects that this international call to action has had on the world we live in.

Are you a Pink Floyd Mastermind? Print E-mail

Last night (25th October), Pink Floyd was one of the specialist subjects that contestants were quizzed on, in the long-running BBC test of knowledge, Mastermind, and we've got the questions here so that you can see how you measure up!

For those of you unfamiliar with this show, there is a full description of the format and rules over at www.BBC.co.uk. In a nutshell, four contestants take it in turns to answer questions over two rounds, against the clock. The first two-minute round comprises questions on each contestant's chosen specialist subject, and the second two-minute round tests general knowledge.
