In The Studio's Division Bell radio show interviews David and Nick Print E-mail

Pink Floyd - The Division BellMuch respected North American syndicated radio show In The Studio interviews David Gilmour and Nick Mason for their latest episode, a look at Pink Floyd on the 20th anniversary of their final album The Division Bell.

In the discussion with In The Studio host Redbeard, Nick Mason acknowledges the division of opinion amongst Floyd fans on the post-Roger Waters material. "There will always be people who feel Pink Floyd ended when Roger left, just as there are people who feel Pink Floyd ended when Syd Barrett left (after the first album). You can't change that, and for them that is the case. As much as I would like to convince them otherwise, I understand that is the case."

This program includes Redbeard's interview with the late Richard Wright as well as touching tributes from David Gilmour and Nick Mason. The show (without the music from the album which you'll hear in the radio broadcast) is available now to stream worldwide at www.inthestudio.net.

Pink Floyd - Storie e segreti in MostraOur friends in Italy, no doubt excited by the prospects of The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains in Milan, from September 19th, have another, much sooner opportunity to dive into the world of the Floyd next month with a special two-day event organised by Floyd specialists The Lunatics.

At the end of March, on the 29th and 30th, the Hotel Atlantic Borgaro in the town of Borgaro Torinese, near Turin, hosts Pink Floyd Storie e Segreti in Mostra, an exhibition of rarities and collectables in the presence of film director Adrian Maben, best known by Floyd fans for Live At Pompeii.

The exhibition, which opens at 3pm on Saturday 29th March, will feature hundreds of original historical documents relating to the band. These will range from the hardest to find posters to vintage handbills, from the tour programs to the most amazing memorabilia, and a selection of the rarest records from the private collection of the Lunatics, five of the biggest Floyd historians and collectors in Italy. That evening, Turin tribute band Time Machine will perform a three-hour show.

On Sunday, 30th March, at 3pm, Adrian Maben will be the special guest, interviewed by Riccardo Bertoncelli, alongside projections and open discussion to relive the history, trivia and a look behind the scenes of Pompeii. There will also be the opportunity for audience members to ask questions too. More details can be found at storieesegretiinmostra.it.

The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal RemainsDetails have just been announced for The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains, which opens in Italy on September 19th, 2014. With Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason all involved, along with Aubrey 'Po' Powell from the Hipgnosis team, and the exhibition being designed by none other than Stufish, the world's most respected stage and entertainment designers, it all sounds rather wonderful. Without further ado, here's what the announcement has revealed.

Fran Tomasi, Pink Floyd's Italian promoter, has announced plans for The Pink Floyd Exhibition – Their Mortal Remains which will open in Milan's La Fabbrica Del Vapore on September 19th 2014. This vast and innovative exhibition will take the visitor on a surreal, multi-sensory journey through Pink Floyd's extraordinary worlds, chronicling the music and art of Pink Floyd, from their debut album The Piper At The Gates of Dawn to the present. The Pink Floyd Exhibition is a major international retrospective of one of the world's most pioneering and influential bands and the active involvement and collaboration of the three band members in all planning aspects has been crucial to the execution of it. Tickets for the four week residency in Milan will be priced at 15 euros, and are on sale this Thursday, February 27th, via www.pinkfloydexhibition.com.

Po, who with his late partner Storm Thorgerson, designed many of the Floyd's revolutionary album art, is the exhibition's curator and creative director, Paula Stainton is the co-creative director. Powell has worked in close consultation with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason on the content of the exhibition, which will feature over 300 artefacts from the band's four decades. The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains is being designed by Stufish, the world's most successful entertainment architects, and longtime stage designers for Pink Floyd. Stufish is the company founded by Mark Fisher who died in 2013.

Roger Waters awarded Honorary Degree; Amused To Death SACD delayed Print E-mail

The American University of Rome last weekAUR awards Roger Waters honorary doctorate awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters Honoris Causa Degree to Roger Waters, for his contribution to music and for his social activism around the globe.

Accompanied by his wife Laurie Durning and by war veteran and friend Harry Shindler, Waters received his degree before a group of AUR students, veterans, faculty, and staff at the Istituto Italiano Studi Germanici in Rome following attendance of the Anzio commemoration ceremonies for the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings where his father, Eric Fletcher Waters of the 8th Royal Fusiliers, died as he fought to repel a German counter-attack in a battle that changed the course of the Second World War.

After receiving the Honoris Causa Degree, Waters gave a short and concise talk directed to AUR students in which he recited a critical poem written in 2004 in light of the re-election of former US President George W. Bush. He then encouraged AUR students to "make the world a much better place than it is now" and further highlighted his hopes that the current education system would focus on getting students interested in discovering and delivering the real truth about the issues of the world.

Waters then answered questions from AUR students regarding inspiration for his music, his thoughts on education, and his passion for veteran causes and human rights. Particularly, he shared with the audience that he finds the work he does with veterans to be the most rewarding of all. In a moving moment, he said "countries of the world really need to think more critically about the psychological situations they are putting their children in when they ask them to go to war". The AUR Veterans Club concluded the ceremony by presenting Roger Waters with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his father's ultimate sacrifice and for Waters' continued outreach to the veteran community. In other Waters news, our friend Jochen Klug has let us know that the scheduled release of the SACD and vinyl of the remastered Amused To Death has been put back from the most recently declared date of April 22nd, to September 23rd. Obviously, any changes to this we will let you know...

The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains Print E-mail

Pink Floyd's Official Facebook page has just posted a short but fascinating video (which is also on their official YouTube channel) which has come out of the blue, and which we're sure you'll find just as intriguing - and exciting - as us. You can view it below (if you aren't already, that is)...

As you'll see, it advertises what's called: The Pink Floyd Exhibition - Their Mortal Remains. Taking its title from the lyrics of Nobody Home, we're hoping that it will be similar (but obviously updated, and using the best that modern technology has to bring their story to life) to the 2003 exhibition in Paris, France, some eleven years ago. Interstellar brought together memorabilia, instruments, music, stage props and more in a fascinating tour through the band's history. Regrettably it never appeared elsewhere subsequently. Now, it seems our wishes have been answered with this new exhibition, and whilst there is no information in the video, nor on the new website (PinkFloydExhibition.com) of where and when it is being staged - a no doubt deliberate ploy to tease us - we presume that this will all be revealed soon.

Naturally, as soon as we know, we'll pass on all the information to you. We're really excited by the prospects of this (posting this news as quickly as we could) and are sure that there's already a lot of you just as keen to know the details... Feel free, by the way, to join us on the Brain Damage Facebook page where we're sure plenty of discussion of this will be taking place!
