Last night (Saturday, December 13th), David Gilmour was amongst the guest performers to join Bombay Bicycle Club onstage at London's iconic Earls Court. The concert was the last ever gig to take place at the much-loved venue before it is demolished and the land redeveloped into housing and retail.
In his segment, almost half-way into the concert, Gilmour played lap steel guitar on the London band's own song 'Rinse Me Down', before he picked up an acoustic guitar and sang Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here', much to the delight of the packed-out crowd.
Gilmour was introduced onto the stage by Bombay Bicycle Club guitarist Jamie MacColl. "This man gave me my first guitar and was one of the first people to play this venue and by my count has played here more than 27 times," he commented. Pink Floyd first played Earls Court in 1973 (the first year concerts were held in the venue), performing The Dark Side Of The Moon, and returned many times, concluding the 1994 Division Bell tour with a string of dates with proceeds going to a range of charities.

Interest in Pink Floyd's new album, The Endless River, shows little sign of waning, despite the heavy pre-sales/advance orders of the album, and the high sales figures seem on the week of release.
Amazon.co.uk has today revealed the most wished for artist albums of Christmas 2014, with British acts dominating the top ten. Pink Floyd's The Endless River, Ed Sheeran's X and Sam Smith's In The Lonely Hour top the chart, with One Direction's new release Four and George Ezra's Wanted On Voyage rounding off the top five. Elsewhere on the chart are the Foo Fighters, Taylor Swift, and AC/DC.
Director of Amazon EU Digital Music, Steve Bernstein, said: "British music is currently undergoing a tremendous popularity boom, both in the UK and worldwide. It's really exciting to see the widespread appeal of younger artists such as Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, and One Direction, as well as the likes of legendary acts such as Pink Floyd and Take That. Further, it's no surprise to see Pink Floyd at the top of the wishlist. Their album launch was one of the most successful in Amazon history and will be a welcome addition to any customers' stocking come Christmas morning."
As a side effect of interest in The Endless River, guess what album has returned to Billboard's 200 Chart? Yes, that's right - The Dark Side Of The Moon. The album has re-entered their top 20, at the number 13 spot. They credit this sudden jump in sales as "thanks to ultra-cheap pricing in the Google Play store (where the classic set was discounted to 99-cents in the tracking week ending December 7). It moved just over 38,000 album equivalent units last week, comprised mostly of pure album sales (nearly 38,000; up 940 percent). That's the album's highest rank since the October 15, 2011-dated chart, when it re-entered at number 12 following a new deluxe reissue. With 889 weeks on the chart, it continues to rule as the album with most charted weeks in the history of the tally. The next-closest album, in terms of longevity, is Johnny Mathis' Johnny's Greatest Hits, with 490 weeks." Obviously, these figures are US-sales only.

Nick Mason has signed a rare copy of the 1992 Pink Floyd box set, Shine On for a charity auction currently running on eBay.
Shine On was a 9 CD set, with custom covers, a fold-out sleeve to house the albums in, and a special book, unavailable elsewhere. Copies are now hard to find, particularly in good condition, so for this one to be available signed by Nick should mean there will be plenty of interest in the next day or so that the auction is running for.
All the proceeds from the auction will be going to a charity called Youth Music Theatre UK. They’re a music theatre charity for young people aged 11-21, and their alumni include Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith.
Bidding for this item finishes in just over 24 hours from when we've posted this news item, and at present, is at a very low amount, so visit this direct link now - good luck!

Pink Floyd’s Creative Director Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell, fresh from finishing his book Hipgnosis Portraits, was tasked with the job of a promotional video for ‘Louder Than Words’, the first track released from The Endless River. As a Brain Damage exclusive, we bring you the story behind the video - in Po’s own words - which gives the background to the ideas in the video, the location, and some of the issues faced during the making of the video. And, if you’ve yet to see it, you can view it at the bottom of this article. Now, over to Po…
When Pink Floyd commissioned a video for ‘Louder Than Words’ there was no specific brief. This was totally normal. I had heard the music and read Polly Samson’s lyrics. The emphasis of the lyric seemed to be about the band, not specifically placed in any time frame, but more about their personal relationships in their nearly five decade career. “It’s louder than words this thing that we do” speaks volumes.
Pink Floyd have nearly always made some formal, or informal, statement about things
they do, be it a reflection of social comment or a sense of political leaning. Writing an
idea for a music video for them is complicated. It can be something current, but then
it’s easily dated; it couldn’t really address the lyric as that would involve starting at
the genesis of Pink Floyd through to the present day, and that’s more than a five
minute film. What was required was something more observational, more a case of
bringing an awareness of something that one might have no previous knowledge of
especially if it effects the future of our planet. “It’s louder than words this thing that
we do” was the line that caught my imagination.
