A Foot In The Door - The Best of Pink Floyd; 2LP 180g heavyweight vinylOn September 28th, 2018, Pink Floyd Records are releasing on heavyweight 2LP 180-gram vinyl, the 2011 compilation A Foot In The Door - The Best of Pink Floyd. This is the first time it has been available on vinyl, being released as a CD only, originally, and gathers tracks from throughout much of the band's career, taking in selections (chosen by members of the band) from 1967-1994. It is the latest in the series of vinyl releases, and bears catalogue number PFRLP21.

The tracks have been newly mastered for vinyl by longstanding Pink Floyd associate James Guthrie, with Joel Plante, and with lacquers cut by Bernie Grundman of Grundman Mastering in Los Angeles, California. This 2LP version features the reinstated version of Time, with the ringing alarm clocks at the start of the track restored, after being omitted on the CD release.

The original sleeve design, has been amended by Pink Floyd Creative Director Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon, to include alternate versions of the photographs used in the original CD version. The album package comes in a gatefold outer sleeve, with two separate printed inner bags, and is pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl.

Nick Mason interviewed by Rolling Stone Print E-mail

Nick Mason on Rolling Stone websiteRolling Stone have just published an interesting interview with Nick Mason, which is available to read online.

The interview, conducted by David Fricke, has Nick discussing his new 3CD/3LP solo box set and his Saucerful of Secrets band, which performs material from Pink Floyd's early days. The band are on tour across Europe throughout September, and tickets are now on sale. The article notes the possibility of the group playing some shows in the US next year.

Nick explains the choice of material for the Saucers' shows: "[Waters and Gilmour] have different areas that they like or don’t like. David was adamant that he didn’t want to do The Nile Song [from More] whereas Guy was mad keen to do it with us." Nick checked with the pair before launching the project. "I thought it would be good manners, and they were both supportive. Roger even said he would come down and sing one of the songs one night."

Nick goes into some detail of the background to his solo albums, and the various film soundtracks and shorter works he also did at the time. This area is rarely discussed, so it was good to hear how it all came about.

You can read the full interview here, and it may appear in an upcoming print edition of Rolling Stone Magazine, so we'll keep you posted on that.
