Just published is the latest issue (number 30 - cover date November 2017) of the Pink Floyd fanzine "Heyou" run by our friends over at the Italian website of the same name. The 52-page dual language magazine (in Italian and English), which is published every six months or so, catches up with things in the Floyd world this year.

The magazine has as its major focus Roger Waters: his Us + Them tour, and his recently released album, Is This The Life We Really Want? with a reprint of a Rolling Stone interview, a full translation of all the lyrics, and a look at the rehearsal show at the very start of the tour.

Elsewhere there is an interview with Turkish pianist/composer/arranger AyseDeniz Gokcin, who combines classical music with other genres, particularly rock music. She is particularly known for her adaptations of Pink Floyd's music. The publishers of Heyou arranged what we hear was an "incredible performance by AyseDeniz" with a supporting group of musicians, The Echoes, on Sunday, November 12th at the Dario Fò theater in Camponogara-Venezia. After the performance, reinterpreting the music of Pink Floyd in a classical, Lisztian style, Alberto Durgante made her an honorary member of the Floydseum cultural association, which he is president of. As with most issues of Heyou, there's a chronological look at things that have happened in the last few months in the news pages, ranging from various magazines published with Floyd content, to re-issues, books published, and more. Strangely, there is a very brief mention of David Gilmour's Live at Pompeii project - one would expect much more about this in the magazine.

In April 1970, Pink Floyd were in the midst of touring North America, and arranged a deal with small local television station KQED in the San Francisco area for an hour-long live performance to be recorded. As with Pompeii, there was no audience as they ran through the set at the Fillmore Auditorium in the city, on the 30th of the month. All for the princely sum of $200!

The performance was broadcast at the time, and last year made available officially on The Early Years box set (and subsequent "breakout" editions which focused on each year). Recently though, KQED unearthed raw footage of Pink Floyd's performance, which, incredibly, included a half hour of music not included in the original broadcast. After months of negotiations, KQED has been granted the right to exclusively premiere film of one of those songs, Astronomy Domine, which can be seen through this link.

Some advance notice for fans in the UK and certain parts of Europe: a 60 minute version of David Gilmour Live at Pompeii will be broadcast on BBC Two TV at 10.40pm on Saturday November 18th, and will feature solo material alongside Pink Floyd classics. The show will be repeated on BBC Two on Thursday November 23rd, at 11:15pm, except in Northern Ireland.

On January 22nd, 2018, the British Film Institute (BFI) are releasing When The Wind Blows on Blu-ray/DVD in a Dual Format Edition, packed with special features including interviews, a making-of documentary and the public information film Protect and Survive (1975).

When the Wind Blows is a touching story about love, tenderness, humanity and hope in the face of nuclear war. Adapted by Raymond Briggs (The Snowman, Ethel and Ernest) from his best-selling book, it features an original soundtrack by Roger Waters, and a title song by David Bowie.

The soundtrack by Waters has a number of fans: it's not a throw-away effort with little relevance to the film itself (unlike one or two of the other songs on the soundtrack) and is worthy of investigation if you are yet to hear it. As the Blu-ray/DVD includes an 'isolated music and effects track' we should be able to hear it in all its glory.

Jim and Hilda Bloggs (Sir John Mills and Dame Peggy Ashcroft) are a middle-aged couple who believe that the British government is in control as they prepare for nuclear war. When the countdown begins, they roll up their shirtsleeves and follow government guidelines (that were actually distributed to households around Britain in the 1970s). They paint their windows white, build a fortress of doors and pillows, take the washing in and put away two packets of ginger nuts, one tin of pineapple chunks and a good supply of tea.
