The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains - French edition exhibition book Print E-mail
Written by Matt

The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains - Official companion book (French language edition)Less than a month after the German edition of the Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains book was announced, is the news that the French language version of this book is now on the schedules. This new edition, created to accompany the London exhibition of the same name, is scheduled for publication on October 19th 2017.

It's the first book ever produced with full access to the Pink Floyd archive. Published to accompany London's V&A Museum's major summer exhibition, Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains celebrates 50 years of one of the greatest bands of all time. Five essays tackle different aspects of their far-reaching legacy in music and the visual arts.

Authors including Jon Savage, Howard Goodall and Rob Young examine what makes the band truly special, from the mythology underpinning their output, through to their experimentation with technology to create new sounds. Their epic staging and performance impact is also explored, along with the anti-authoritarianism that infuses their lyrics.

The book is heavily illustrated throughout, emphasizing the essential role that visual material played in supporting the music and creating the lasting Pink Floyd phenomenon. Obviously, we really recommend it to those who are going to see the exhibition, AND to those who won't be. It doesn't really spoil things for those who are, as it more complements the exhibition rather than repeats what you'll see there. Details of the English version of Pink Floyd: Their Mortal Remains can be seen here. We suspect the French and German editions - like the English language hardback - will also feature a spectacular lenticular cover which has to be seen in the flesh.

You can place your order now for this French edition of the book directly from Amazon France.

Roger Waters adds new Canadian show; issues in Miami Print E-mail

Friday, 14 July 2017

First some hopefully good news for our Canadian friends: Roger Waters has just added an extra show toward the end of his 2017 North American tour. Tickets for the concert - being held on October 25th 2017, at the appropriately named Rogers Place in Edmonton, AB, go on sale TODAY at 12pm local time through Ticketmaster.ca and other normal outlets.

In a separate development, last night's concert in Miami was due to have a team of twelve drama participants from the Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Teen Club, assist Roger with Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2. The Greater Miami Jewish Federation stepped in and pulled the appearance of the teens from the concert, accusing Roger of alleged antisemitism, and in response, Roger subsequently shared the following video:

As you'll see from the video, Roger was not happy about this, finding the accusations hurtful, and also expressing his regret for the missed opportunity for the children who were due to perform. In the short time before the concert start time, some others were hurriedly arranged to be trained up in the performance requirements.

Win Nick Mason's Inside Out - A Personal History of Pink Floyd 2017 edition Print E-mail

Nick Mason - Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd (2017 edition)Six years ago, we brought you a review of the revised, 2011 edition of Nick Mason's "Inside Out - A Personal History Of Pink Floyd". The original hardback book was a big hit with fans and critics alike for the candid and in places, incredibly amusing text looking at the rise of the band. The original paperback, released in October 2005, brought matters up to date with Nick's personal view of the band's reunion with Roger Waters for Live8, which included some new pictures, too. An entertaining audiobook, read by Nick, was published at the same time. The 2011 edition included more events and thoughts from Nick's perspective.

Nick has been revising the text even further, taking into account activities from the most recent years, and a new, 2017 edition of the paperback - released to coincide with the opening of the Floyd exhibition in London at the V&A - has just been published.

In this expansion to the book, the 2010 Hoping Foundation show by Roger Waters and David Gilmour is discussed, as is the eventual guest appearance by David and Nick on one of Roger's O2 Wall shows. As Nick put it, "At least we were on a stage together, even if our selection of instruments might have struggled with a reworking of Echoes"...

Nick's involvement in the 2011 Why Pink Floyd programme, and separately, the Featured Artists Coalition, is covered, and this leads to the circumstances and work undertaken for The Endless River release. This is analysed in some detail, via a small excursion to the London Olympic Stadium, where Nick drummed for Ed Sheeran, performing Wish You Were Here to a worldwide audience for the 2012 Closing Ceremony.

Finally, to bring matters right up to date, Nick talks at length first about The Early Years 1965-1972 project, then The Pink Floyd Exhibition: Their Mortal Remains, including a mention of the ill-fated Milan staging which was due to happen in 2014. Thus, the book brings us to what Nick ponders might be the end of the story, but with a typical wink and "a quiet but insistent 'BUT you never know...'"!

The original hardback edition was essential enough for Floyd fans, and each revision has made 'Inside Out' even more indispensable. This really is the perfect time to fill the hole in your collection, either getting the book for the first time, or getting this edition to find out the latest thoughts from our favourite drummer.

You can now order the book from the following retailers: Amazon UKAmazon FranceAmazon GermanyAmazon.com and Amazon.ca, all of whom will ship the book worldwide if you aren't in the countries above.

Sunday, 09 July 2017

Next Saturday, July 15th, an hour-long Facebook Live session takes place, A Conversation with Roger Waters.

The conversation, hosted by The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), will quiz Roger Waters on his support for the cultural boycott of Israel and Palestinians' rights. The conversation will be led by Noura Erakat, a Palestinian human rights attorney and activist.

The conversation will be broadcast live from the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement’s Facebook page, at 8pm Palestine/5pm GMT/1pm EDT on Saturday.

Obviously this is a divisive subject and whichever side of the argument you are on, this information is purely to advise it is happening.
