An intriguing call has been put out by Roger Waters:
"My son Harry has put a great band and show together to go on the road next year to pay tribute to the music from the golden era of Pink Floyd and maybe a couple of songs from my subsequent solo career.
"Harry's band is missing one thing. The voice I had when I was young. Back in the day, I could sing everything from the soft urgency of "Hello, is there anybody in there?" from 'Comfortably Numb', to the high-pitched scream of "You know how I need you to beat to a pulp on a Saturday night" from 'Don't Leave Me Now'.
"Can you do that? Are you that missing voice? If you are, this is your chance. This is an open invitation to audition for Harry's band. I'm serious."
The website notes that the aim is to "relive the magic of Pink Floyd from 1971-1979" and directly references The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. Featuring Harry on keyboards and organ, and Graham Broad (who drummed on a number of Roger's tours), it gives the tagline of "The father's legacy, the son's band".
It's an intriguing idea, and will be interesting to hear the band's approach. Will it be like a tribute band, albeit with the official endorsement of Roger, or will it tread more the territory of Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets? Obviously at this stage, with the band not yet assembled, any live dates will be a way off.
The deadline for submissions is April 30th, so you have just over three weeks to apply if you think you fit the bill! You can submit your audition through this link. More information about the project can be found at Harry's website - HarryWaters.com.
