piper at the gates of dawnIn a departure from our normal sort of news, there are a couple of petitions currently running which are gathering pace and interest - one related to the London Underground of all things, and the other to the commemoration of forty years since the release of Pink Floyd's first album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn...

The photographer of that album's iconic cover, Vic Singh, got in contact with us recently with the news of the campaign initiated and coordinated by the VegetableFriends discussion group (Contact: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) to try and ensure proper recognition of the album, which is much loved by Floyd fans and an absolute key part of the band's history. The original mono mix has been out of print for decades and is in high demand, esp. after Barrett's death last year.

To find out more, visit www.ipetitions.com/petition/PiperAtTheGatesOfDawn and feel free to forward the link to other fans if you are interested in it.

turnham green The other petition finds David Gilmour adding his voice to a local transport issue (giving rise to a headline of "Residents tickled Pink by campaign support" maybe?). The problem in a nutshell is that a London tube line (the Piccadilly line) only stops at the Turnham Green station between 5:28am and 6:45am in the morning, and 10:30pm to 12:48am - and despite 40 years of lobbying for an all-day tube stop, residents have had no success.

Now with this petition on the Downing Street (the UK Prime Minister's residence/office) website, and with the support of David, and other well-known residents such as comedian Jim Davidson, the area hopes their 40 year battle gets more attention - and a resolution to the problem.

You can find the petition at petitions.pm.gov.uk/Turnhamgreen/?ref=turnhamgreen.
