Pink Floyd - See Emily Play 2013 Record Store Day limited pink vinyl singleThe 2013 Record Store Day takes place on April 20th, and includes within its many limited edition exclusives a very special Pink Floyd single - and we have full details for you.

Record Store Day now occurs each year, takes place across many countries, and celebrates the work of small, independent shops with a range of one-day-only special releases, unavailable elsewhere and while stocks last. In 2011, a limited "Pink Floyd The Wall: Singles Box" flew off the shelves on RSD, and this latest release is bound to be as popular.

It's a limited (but not numbered), one-off 7" pink vinyl pressing of 'See Emily Play/The Scarecrow'. It comes in an EMI house single bag, together with a card insert featuring Syd Barrett's artwork, and then the whole thing is shrinkwrapped.

The quantities are limited within the territories that have ordered it, which include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, NZ, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, UK, and the USA.

Full details of other releases, and participating stores, not just in North America, but worldwide, can be found at RecordStoreDay.com. Should online retailers feature it too, we will let you know as and when information comes our way.

Nick Mason talks about Dark Side on its 40th anniversary Print E-mail

Friday, 01 March 2013

Pink Floyd's groundbreaking concept album "Dark Side of the Moon" is a staggering 40 years old this month. As the BBC note, you could say its themes are just as relevant today - madness, money, identity, disorientation, all the stresses of the modern world. But in 1973, its construction was startling - with its musical episodes flowing one into the other, and its looped and layered sound effects. It's credited as one of the most influential rock albums of all time. Yesterday afternoon BBC World sat down with Nick Mason in his North London loft, and asked him whether they'd ever suspected the album would be so big...

roger_waters_singing.jpgJust announced this morning is an additional date for the 2013 Roger Waters The Wall Live tour - the massive production will be performed at the Manchester Arena in England on Monday 16th September 2013. Tickets go on sale on Friday, March 1st at 9am UK time, through this direct link to Ticketmaster UK, along with other official agents. The venue is not a stranger to Roger - it was the site of three Wall concerts in 2011. Since those concerts, the naming rights have expired, and whilst then it was known as the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena, the newspaper's title has now been dropped for the simpler name of Manchester Arena.

The Brain Damage showpage for this concert has now been set up and as with all the other dates on the 2013 tour, we welcome any ticket scans, posters, photos, thoughts on the show, and more.

Live From Jodrell Bank
Live From Jodrell Bank

Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow for a very special, one-off performance to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of The Dark Side of the Moon.

The Australian Pink Floyd, who first played in the UK twenty years ago for the first International Brain Damage fan convention at Wembley, will be performing at Live From Jodrell Bank on Saturday 6th July. The highly regarded tribute act will be playing a special celebration show to mark the anniversary of the release of Pink Floyd's most well-known album, in a truly eye-catching location. Jodrell Bank, in Cheshire, is part of the University of Manchester and is a world renowned British observatory that hosts a number of radio telescopes.

A unique element of the Live From Jodrell Bank shows has seen bands beaming their projections on the huge, 76 metre Lovell telescope and The Australian Pink Floyd Show with its audio visual production are sure to be using this to the best of their abilities in this special environment.

The band have said about this newly announced show: "The music and spirit of Pink Floyd very much embodies ambition and a sense of wonder at the expanses that lie within and without us all. Throughout the band's work there are references to space, the planets and the known -- and unknown -- Universe around us. Pink Floyd have often been described as a British icon and this is something which, surely, Jodrell Bank also qualifies as. The Australian Pink Floyd Show are delighted to have the opportunity to perform some of this wonderful music against such an amazing backdrop. For us to be a footnote in the Jodrell Bank history is truly an honour."

Tickets for the show go on sale tomorrow through livefromjodrellbank.com/tickets and to give a flavour of the setting for the show, as seen at previous concerts by other artists [click thumbnails to the left], here's a promo video for the event:
