Just announced by Picturehouse Entertainment and Fathom Events are a number of special screenings of the film Roger Waters The Wall, written and directed by Roger Waters and Sean Evans.
The film, with an exclusive "in conversation" with Roger Waters which we understand may be a pre-recorded item, rather than a live Q&A, will be screened in participating cinemas across the world at 7.30pm local time on Tuesday, September 29th this year. More information and tickets will be available this summer at www.roger-waters.com. We will also keep you posted on developments with this set of screenings.
The film had its World Premiere at last year’s Toronto Film Festival - which we reported on in detail - is an event film that unfolds on many levels – as an immersive concert experience of the classic Pink Floyd album, a road movie of Waters' reckoning with the past and as an anti-war film, highlighting the human cost of conflict.
The film was shot in 4K and mixed in Dolby Atmos during the 2010-2013 tour, seen by over 1.5 million fans across North America, 1 million fans across Latin and Central America and 1 million fans across Europe - over 4 million fans worldwide, and the biggest worldwide tour by a solo artist, ever.
Beyond the outstanding music, Waters continues to reflect on the impact of war on his own family as he embarks on a deeply personal pilgrimage. Woven throughout the film, the journey offers a revealing, candid portrait of a man who has been through enough, and lived in the world long enough, to be passionately and unapologetically anti-war.
Roger Waters said: "We were a big family on the road, 189 of us, give or take the odd Snoozy Walrus. We were happy by and large and I am really happy to welcome everyone at Fathom and Picturehouse aboard, I know, I know, mixing metaphors. Where was I? Oh yeah, with your help, this coming 29th September will be the perfect way to remember, not just our loved ones, but the other guys loved ones, fallen, living, and as yet unborn."
As yet, there are no details of which cinemas will be participating, nor is there any news at this stage of a domestic release of the film on DVD or Blu-ray.
Just a short news item for you, but hopefully an interesting one. In February this year, Technics Tracks interviewed Nick Mason at his London office, regarding his earliest musical memories, which are then progressed on to his work with Pink Floyd. As part of this, he talks about one track in particular, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, and why it is such a favourite of Nick's.
You can watch the interview (it lasts just under four minutes) at tracks.technics.com
Announced today are the long awaited and highly anticipated 2015 editions of Roger Waters' 1992 album, Amused To Death, which come in a variety of editions, all boasting new artwork and packaging.
Released on July 24th, 2015, the various iterations of the album are sure to be popular. Since news broke about James Guthrie's work on the album, demand to hear the surround version of ATD has been extremely high - with just one public airing at the Princeston university conference covered elsewhere on our site.
The 2015 editions of Amused to Death will be available on:
CD
CD / Blu-ray
SACD
Hi-res digital download
2LP 200 gram vinyl (pressed at Quality Record Pressings)
Limited edition, numbered 2LP picture disc vinyl
Standard 2LP vinyl
The CD + Blu-ray edition, and the SACD edition, of Amused To Death both features the new 5.1 surround remix of the album in high definition. The artwork and packaging has been updated for 2015 by Sean Evans, the creative director of Waters' 2010-2013 The Wall Live tour and movie (which is yet to have a commercial release, despite its Canadian screenings). The standard CD edition, as well as the vinyl editions, feature the newly remastered stereo mix of the album.

Finally, here's Roger himself talking about the 2015 edition of Amused To Death...
Last night, the UK's Official Chart organisation revealed a new pair of charts, which mark the resurgence of vinyl in the modern music scene. This follows the news that in 2014 vinyl sales figures hit a 20-year high (boosted by a certain release by a band we know well). That trend has continued into the first quarter of 2015, with vinyl album sales up 69 per cent and vinyl single sales up 23 per cent.
As from last night at 7pm, they are now publishing separate charts showing the biggest selling vinyl albums and vinyl singles of the decade so far. Here's the top five...
AM - Arctic Monkeys
The King of Limbs - Radiohead
The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Random Access Memories - Daft Punk
The Endless River - Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here takes the final spot of the top 20.
The Dark Side Of The Moon has spent 214 weeks in the UK Top 40 since its release, achieving its highest chart position - number 2 - in its first week. The Floyd's fifteenth and final studio album The Endless River was the band's sixth UK number 1 and managed 14 weeks in the UK Top 40.
Just published is the latest issue (number 25 - cover date April 2015) of the Pink Floyd fanzine "Heyou" run by our friends over at the Italian website of the same name.
The 52-page dual language magazine (in Italian and English), which is published every six months or so, catches up with things in the Floyd world this year, but with a packed issue, its normal wider news coverage takes a bit of a break in favour of three larger features.
As hinted at by the front cover, the magazine includes coverage of 'The Endless River', the recently released album, and gives the project a track-by-track analysis. The majority of the magazine is devoted though to a detailed and fascinating interview with our good friend Adrian Maben, best known amongst Floyd fans for his work on Live At Pompeii.
Elsewhere in its pages, there's a look at 1974's Floyd activities including the French tour and British Winter Tour of that year, as well as a summary of the news (slightly strangely, chronologically in reverse!).
More details of the Heyou fanzine can be found at www.heyou.it/fsubscrbd.html, where you can get individual copies, and subscription enquiries (four issues costing 30 euros within Europe, and 40 euros outside Europe) should go to
