Pink Floyd at the Golden Circle, Sweden, 1967Some of you will recall that back in January 2007, we brought you some rare pictures of the Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd playing at the Gyllene Cirkeln (Golden Circle) in Sveavägen in Stockholm. The concert took place on September 10th, 1967, and clearly looks to have been a cabaret show! "No one will like what we play", said a Floyd band member to the audience in resignation before the concert.

Our friend Fredrik Johansson had unearthed the shot to the left, which looks as though it was one of the diners who took this snap, in between courses.

In a fascinating update to this, a full recording of the concert is being played in a special event taking place in May 2011! The organiser of the event has been in touch with us, and here's what's taking place, where and when...

The concert, including the soundcheck, was recorded with professional microphones on a Revox tape recorder, and is thought to be the only existing example of a complete 1967 show. The organiser tells us that the recording is of the highest quality and listening to it is as close as one can get to actually having been there when it happened.

The venue had no PA system which forced Syd Barrett to play his best instead of tuning and detuning his guitar, which by then he had taken to doing on a regular basis live.

Incredibly, the Golden Circle restaurant remains exactly how it looked in 1967, and they have now convinced the owner of the restaurant to open up exclusively for this event. It takes place on May 3rd and 7th, which coincides nicely with the Roger Waters concert in Stockhold on May 4th and 5th.

They are even planning a special menu for the evening:

Drinks:
Crazy Diamond (shot/apperatif in pink colour tone)
Apples & Oranges (non alchoholic alternative or Cider?)
Bag in the "Paint" Box (wine-box for several people)
The Scarecrow (already existing beer from Wychwood brewery)
Återställar Overdrive (Fruit cocktail)
Återställar means in Swedish "strong stabilizer for the day after"

Food:
A Sausage full of Secrets (A big surprise)
Gastronomy Domine (A big surprise)
Corporal Egg (Omelette?)
Careful with that Lax, Eugene (Lax = Salmon)

Dessert:
Kardemummagumma (Pink cake with cardemumma flavour with whipped cream and jam)
Candy and a Currant Bun (Pink candy + 1 glass of Currant Bun liquer)

Quite an interesting menu, but not matched by the feast of music that's going to be on offer that night!

There's an article (in Swedish) about the event on the Dagens Nyheter news site, and tickets for the event are now available from the venue website itself. Should be a very popular event, and we hear even EMI will be in the audience to hear the recording. Our thanks to Stefan Dimle for getting in touch, and to the other BD visitors who've written in about this event.
